I love the challenge of transforming an unloved or neglected garden into an exciting, inspirational place to relax, entertain, play and enjoy being outdoors. After a close consultation with the garden owner, I produce hand drawn sketches of the new design and planting plans, accompanied with a mood board of images to help you imagine what it will look like. To build the garden, I use computer CAD generated constructions drawings for the landscaper to use, and can supply and plant the plants.

I loved working on the design for this garden. It was really tucked away, up lots of steps, down a passage, in the heart of the village, you wouldn't know it was there. It was quite overgrown when I first saw it, but the dry stone walls and views of the church and the fields created a really peaceful feel already. There was a lot of clearing to do, but gradually the new layout took shape. We restored the old pond, and added lots of new planting to bring in wildlife and support a bee hive. Mark built an amazing stone arch that leads up to the a new patio with a bench under the old apple tree. There are also raised beds for veggies, and a winding, shady path of ferns, brunnera and hostas to take you back to the house.

A recent design for a tiny courtyard in the old Victorian streets of Penrith. The materials will reflect the local red sandstone of the walls with a new sandstone raised bed, corten steel planters, trellis and a curving path of setts 🍃 The planting will be a shade tolerant selection of ferns, grasses and flowering shrubs with some roses for fragrance 🌿

The brief for this garden design was to completely change the rectangle of lawn into something imaginative, with new shapes and layers of planting to look through. I designed overlapping curves spinning around a circle, using Corten steel, contrasting gravels and paving to tie in with the colours of the house. There are structural evergeens, softened by grasses and perennials and trees and shrubs to bring blossom and height. It was only planted late in the summer and already looking pretty established! A total change from the bare lawn, and a massive improvement for the butterflies, birds and insects making themselves at home. 🌿🦋🍃

Jewel colours, contrasting textures and winding curves added new life to this cottage garden. I planted it as soon as the soil began to warm up in spring and the clients did a great job of keeping it watered during its first summer 🌿🌺
