At the HEATING DOC we pride ourselves in being able to rapidly pinpoint faults in boilers and heating systems and fix them in double quick time.

A boiler breakdown we attended in Chorley this week was no exception. Our customer was experiencing problems with her boiler not providing heating or hot water - sometimes making all kinds of weird honking or whistling noises on the rare occasions it did decide to come to life.

We set to work and quickly tracked the problem down to a faulty electronic gas valve inside the boiler. We replaced it, gave the boiler a good cleanout, and then carried out all the essential safety tests to the boiler.

The result is a boiler that's back in tip top condition - ready to take the strain for the coming winter.

Have you been getting a proper boiler service or just a "poke and go"? Some gas engineers - especially those from bigger companies - are working to targets and timescales to keep their bosses happy. If a gas engineer is in and out within 20 minutes, they will have likely only had time to do basic safety checks to your boiler which include poking a probe into the flue, checking the readings and then leaving - a "poke and go"!
At the HEATING DOC we're not working to targets and take the time to service boilers thoroughly. We offer two levels of servicing:
Standard Service: Suitable in most cases for modern boilers. Includes checking/testing major boiler components for correct operation, checking pressures and temperatures in key areas, cleaning out ancillary components and filters, and carrying out a full set of safety checks - including a flue system test and flue gas analysis.
Stripdown Service: Required for older boilers routinely and recommended for modern boilers every 3-5 years. This includes a Standard Service plus a full stripdown and cleanout of the burner components and main heat exchanger, renewing any seals and gaskets as required.
A properly serviced boiler is a happy boiler - which normally leads to greater reliability and a longer life.

Another boiler tip top in time for the cold months ahead. We were called to service this Baxi 800. It was in pretty good condition, but there were a couple of niggly little faults that the customer said had been there since it was installed. Water was coming out of taps in a brief high pressure surge when turned on, and pipes were knocking when taps were turned off. An easy one for the HEATING DOC! The fitter who originally installed the boiler had fitted a shock arrestor to the cold water pipework next to the boiler, but had not set the air pressure inside it correctly. We measured the pressure of the mains water coming into the boiler and set the shock arrestor pressure correctly. Problem solved! We then carried out one of our standard services on the boiler, and it's now running like a charm!
