Following our King’s Award for Enterprise: Promoting Opportunity, we were honoured to receive a letter from Susan Acland-Hood, Permanent Secretary at the Department for Education, who chaired the Award’s Judging Panel.

The letter highlighted our commitment to creating high-quality, accessible routes into construction for young people from diverse backgrounds.

As the King’s Awards celebrate their 60th anniversary, this acknowledgement reinforces our core focus: supporting social mobility and building rewarding careers through our apprenticeship programmes.

We recently welcomed Bailey Neate from Safestand to Lee Marley Academy for hands-on training with our Cohort 6 Bricklaying Apprentices.

The session covered the safe er****on and dismantling of the Safestand temporary platform system.

It gave apprentices the confidence to recognise when a platform has been erected safely, and to support others doing the same on site.

The apprentices then had the opportunity to erect and dismantle the platform themselves.

Training like this is an established part of our apprenticeship programme, giving apprentices experience beyond the core curriculum and helping build the next generation of skilled professionals.

Outstanding results at the Guild of Bricklayers National Final.🏆

🔸 Dominic Lawrence placed second in the senior category.
🔸 Paolo Puglisi placed second in the junior category.

Those results mean Lee Marley Academy has produced two of the UK’s top four bricklaying apprentices.

Competing at national level demands a standard that goes well beyond day-to-day training. Both brought skill, composure and clear dedication to the competition.

A well-deserved result for both. Congratulations, Dominic and Paolo.

We are recruiting a Graduate Quantity Surveyor to join our team on a large-scale residential project in Bath.

This is a site-based commercial role with real responsibility from day one.

You will gain hands-on experience across cost management, estimating, procurement, valuations and contract administration, working within an established specialist subcontractor.

We are looking for a degree-qualified graduate in Quantity Surveying or a related discipline who is organised, numerically confident and ready to build their commercial career.

Sara Calvo, our Scaffold Training Manager, joined a panel discussion at Vistry’s Women into Construction event at Lambeth Town Hall last week.

The conversation focused on how the industry can better attract, develop and retain female talent in construction.

From apprenticeship pathways and skills gaps to inclusive recruitment, the panel explored what needs to change to create genuinely accessible routes into the sector.

Bridging classroom learning with real-world product knowledge is a key part of the Lee Marley Academy experience.

We recently welcomed Kingspan Insulation to the Academy for a dedicated session linked to the Traditional Cavity Walling unit.

Elod Tribel delivered a presentation on Kingspan’s insulation products, followed by a practical installation demonstration from Morgan Woolf.

Industry partner sessions are an established part of our apprenticeship programme, giving apprentices direct exposure to the products and systems they will encounter on site.

We recently welcomed Connor Richardson, a Year 9 student from Park Academy High School, for a work shadow day at our Northwick Park project, where his grandad, Robert Bertram, is Senior Project Manager.

His grandad, dad and cousin have all built careers in scaffolding.

Connor hopes to follow the same path as an apprentice.

His enthusiasm and commitment were clear. Exactly the kind of attitude that builds a strong career in construction.

We wish him every success and hope to see him back at Lee Marley Group before long.

Seven months into his bricklaying apprenticeship, Nathaniel has achieved a distinction in the Traditional Cavity Wall Check Test at Lee Marley Academy. 🧱

As a voluntary stretch and challenge addition to his test, Nathaniel completed two decorative banding techniques, incorporating:

🔹A dentil course, creating a repeating tooth-like pattern
🔹A dog tooth course with bricks laid at 45 degrees, forming a zig-zag profile

The quality of this work is a credit to Nathaniel’s commitment and to the expertise of the Academy training team supporting his development.

A well-deserved distinction, Nathaniel.
