A few photos from the process of painting Skomer Island onto Welsh slate 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

I thought I’d share some of the stages of this one so you can see for yourself how my paintings come together.

This is a commission of Skomer Island in Pembrokeshire, painted as a gift for my client’s boyfriend as they move into their new home.

I’ve wanted to paint Skomer for a long time so it was nice to finally get around to it.

I’ve been painting Welsh slate for a few years now and I genuinely can’t believe I’m only just getting around to painting Skomer Island 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿📍

This is a commission of Skomer Island in Pembrokeshire, painted directly onto Welsh slate, with two tiny puffins hidden in the painting.

I’ve painted quite a few places around Pembrokeshire now, but Skomer has somehow escaped me until now!

For anyone who doesn’t know me, I’m Cait, a Welsh artist from South Wales and I paint landscapes from around Wales onto Welsh slate, wood and canvas.

I’ve got a very long list of Welsh places I still want to paint, but I’m always interested to hear what people think should be on it, so if there’s somewhere you’d like to see me paint let me know in the comments 🤍

I’ve realised I’ve been very bad at keeping Facebook updated lately 🫣

Most of my posting has ended up happening over on Instagram and TikTok, but quite a lot has happened since I last posted on here so I thought I’d share one of my newest paintings.

This is Skomer Island in Pembrokeshire, painted directly onto Welsh slate, with two tiny puffins hidden in the painting.

It’s a commission for my client’s boyfriend as they move into their new home, and it has arrived safely this week.

The last few days have actually been a bit mad for me online. I’ve had over 145,000 views and more than 900 new followers on Instagram, which has completely come out of nowhere this week.

I’ve spent the last few years building up this little Welsh slate art business alongside everything else, and it’s starting to feel like it’s turning into something much bigger than I ever imagined.

So I’m going to try and be a bit better at keeping you in the loop here on Facebook too🤞

Follow along as I paint my way across Cymru, one piece of slate at a time.

I think I’m finally ready to say, I’m back.

The last few months have looked a little different behind the scenes. I took some time away from posting consistently while I focused on finishing my last Welsh slate commissions, preparing my next release, and honestly just taking a little time to breathe.

And the response to my latest Welsh slate commission release honestly left me speechless. 10 spaces opened, over 30 applications received, and my commission diary is now booked until next spring.

Also… looking back at some of these prices now, I was seriously undercharging. But these paintings were the beginning of something I never imagined for my business, and I’ll always be grateful for that.

If you love Wales, Welsh landscapes and watching this little Welsh slate journey unfold, I’d love for you to stick around

The Rhossili Sunflower Fields are reopening, so I thought I’d bring this one back. 🌻🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

I painted this commission a few years ago, and it’s still one of my favourites of the Rhossili Sunflowers

If you’ve followed me for a while, you’ll know I don’t usually paint people. But every now and then a commission comes along that’s just too special to say no to, and this was definitely one of them.

I love that it captures not just the sunflower fields, but a really happy memory made there too. ❤️

I’ve had a few messages recently asking if there’s anywhere you can buy one of my paintings now that my Welsh slate commissions are fully booked until after next spring… and the answer is yes!

If you’re heading to St Davids over the summer, pop into Drifters Café. They’ve currently got three of my original Welsh slate paintings and a handful of my little Pembrokeshire wood slice paintings waiting for their forever homes.

It’s such a lovely little café (the coffee and cake are well worth the visit too ☕🍰), and I’m so grateful they stock my work.

Hello everyone!

With lots of new people finding my page recently, I thought it was probably time to introduce myself.

I’m Cait, a 24-year-old artist from South Wales, and I paint landscapes from across Cymru directly onto Welsh slate.

What started with my dad bringing home a pile of slate five years ago has somehow grown into a business that lets me spend my days painting some of the most beautiful places in Wales.

The best part of it all isn’t actually the painting, it’s hearing your stories. The beaches you grew up visiting, the mountains you’ve climbed, the villages that still feel like home… those are the places that inspire every piece I create.

If you’re new here, thank you so much for stopping by. I’d love to know where in Wales (or beyond!) you’re following from, and which Welsh place means the most to you.

Diolch for being here. 🤍

This morning I shared this news with my email subscribers… now it’s everyone else’s turn 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

I honestly still don’t think I’ve quite processed this week.

My Welsh slate commission applications completely exceeded anything I could have imagined, and every commission space I had available for the rest of 2026 has now been filled.

Because so many of you applied, I’ve even started offering a small number of commission spaces for early 2027 before I take some time away to get married next spring.

More than anything though, I just want to say thank you.

Reading your applications reminded me that these paintings are about so much more than Welsh landscapes. They’re about home, memories, family and the places that make Wales feel like Wales.

If you’ve applied and you’re still waiting to hear from me, please don’t worry. Every single application will receive a personal reply from me, no matter how long it takes.

If you missed out this time, I’d really recommend joining my email newsletter. Subscribers always hear about commission releases first, and that’s where I’ll share news about future Welsh slate commissions when they’re ready.

Diolch, from the bottom of my heart, for supporting my little corner of Cymru. It means more than you’ll ever know. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿❤️
