Well, the temperature has dropped, the wind has picked up and the early Winter storms are about to arrive! Now is definitely a good time to check your roof is secure before the wind does too much damage.

If you already have a GRP roof then there's no need to worry - GRP roofs are both waterproof and weatherproof and last for decades.

We had a great three days at the Homebuilding and Renovation Show at the end of September and met many builders, developers and home owners looking to install or improve their roofs.

What was most striking though was that most of the people we met were already well aware of the benefits of using GRP (glass fibre) as a roofing material.

Traditionally, the default solution to a flat roof always used to be bitumen but GRP offers so much more. It is light, robust and completely waterproof. So much so, that we offer a 25 year Guarantee on both materials and workmanship with all of our GRP roofs.

Wow! Hasn't the weather changed today. High winds and some driving rain here in the South East - just the sort of weather to expose leaky roofs that have deteriorated over the Summer.

If you start to spot damp patches on the ceiling of your flat roof or missing tiles on the outside, now is the time to do something about it. Whilst most people are familiar with tiles and slates, few people are aware of the complex nature of the roofline that goes around the edge of a roof - so here is our guide and annotated photo to the Roofline:
Fascia
The fascia board is the long, straight board that runs along the lower edge of the roof. The fascia is fixed directly to the roof trusses and usually does all the work of supporting the bottom row of tiles and carrying all the guttering.
This is no mean feat, especially when it is raining hard. In a downpour the roof of a 3-bed semi could be washing several gallons of water per second into its gutters.
Bargeboard
This is the board that is used on the gable end of a house. The condition of the bargeboard can often make or break the look of a house, and over the years it has evolved into some very attractive shapes.
Soffit
The soffit board is tucked away under the fascia board. It is usually the board that you see most of from street level. The soffit can be ventilated to allow the flow of air into the roof area. Alternatively, ventilation can be provided over the top of the fascia board. Many people prefer the latter solution these days. Without adequate ventilation, condensation will form in the roof void increasing the risk of timber decay.
Boxend
The Box End is a work of art, accommodating as it does the many different angles, planes and heights of the fascia, soffit and bargeboard at each corner of the house where there is a gable end.
