🌿 MYTH BUSTED! 🌿

Thank you to everyone who took part in yesterday’s Garden Myth challenge! 💚

The statement was:

💧 “Watering your plants in the middle of a hot, sunny day burns the leaves.”

✅ Answer: MYTH!

While it’s often said that water droplets act like tiny magnifying glasses, research has shown that they don’t typically cause leaves to burn.

However, watering in the early morning or evening is still the best approach. 🌱

Why?

✔️ Less water is lost through evaporation.
✔️ Plants have more time to absorb moisture.
✔️ The soil stays hydrated for longer, helping plants cope with warmer weather.

🌞 Heatwave Reminder! 🌿

With temperatures set to soar over the coming days, now is the perfect time to give your garden a little extra care.

💧 Water plants early in the morning or later in the evening to reduce evaporation.
🌱 Newly planted flowers, shrubs and trees will need a little more attention than established plants.
🌾 Leave your grass slightly longer during hot spells to help it retain moisture and stay healthier.
🐝 If you can, leave out a shallow dish of fresh water for birds, bees and other wildlife.

A little care now can make a big difference to keeping your garden looking its best throughout the summer.

Here are a few fascinating facts about Foxgloves (Digitalis purpurea):

🌸 Native to: Much of Europe, including the UK, where they thrive in woodlands, hedgerows and gardens.

🐝 Great for: Bees and other pollinators! Their distinctive bell-shaped flowers are rich in nectar and provide an important food source during the summer months.

📅 Flowers: Typically from June to August, producing tall spikes of vibrant pink, purple, white or cream blooms.

☀️ Prefers: Partial shade to full sun in well-drained soil, making them a beautiful addition to many garden settings.

⚠️ Did you know? Although Foxgloves are stunning to look at, every part of the plant is poisonous if eaten, so care should be taken around children and pets.
