Awaab’s Law Phase 2

From **30 November 2026**, Awaab’s Law expands in English social housing to cover significant “domestic hygiene” hazards. Government guidance explicitly includes pest infestations caused or sustained by property defects, inadequate refuse storage or poor drainage.

A serious rat infestation threatening health can be treated as an emergency; significant hazards must normally be investigated within 10 working days, with safety work completed within five working days after the investigation. Emergency hazards must be made safe within 24 hours.

Large wasp nest treated in Godshill today, the biggest we have dealt with this year.

Wasp nests are now at their seasonal peak, with colonies reaching their largest size and activity levels. This nest had grown extensively around the roof timbers and down the brickwork and could have contained thousands of wasps.

Another large, well established nest successfully brought under control by Wight Pest Control.

Following recent rat activity, this outbuilding needed a complete clear-out, clean and disinfection.

Finding and proofing entry points is often the key to solving a rat problem for good.

On a recent job, we carried out a detailed inspection, including a survey of the drains and the use of an inspection camera, to trace rodent activity.

This led us to lift floorboards and inspect beneath the property, where we discovered hidden gaps and access points that were allowing rats to enter the home.
