BY Design & Build Ltd are looking for a reliable, hardworking Groundworker to join our growing team.

We’re looking for someone who:
✅ Has a valid CSCS card
✅ Holds a full UK driving licence
✅ Has some experience in groundworks
✅ Is punctual, reliable and hardworking
✅ Has a good attitude and strong work ethic
✅ Can work well as part of a team and independently

The work will include excavations, drainage, ducting, concreting, kerbing, setting out and general groundworks, with ongoing projects across Shropshire, Powys and surrounding areas.

Without a doubt, one of our favourite transformations to date! 🙌

This garden has been completely reimagined into a modern, low-maintenance outdoor space that’s ready to be enjoyed all year round.

🌿 Project highlights:
▫️ 50m² of Classic Ivory Porcelain from Pavestone
▫️ Bespoke sleeper retaining wall to conceal the inside of the hedge, finished with a flat sleeper top to create additional seating
▫️ Matching sleeper planter, ready for the customer’s planting
▫️ Stunning Lords 40mm artificial lawn from Select Living Group
▫️ Ivory porcelain stepping stones leading through to the rear patio
▫️ A beautiful charcoal aluminium pergola that perfectly complements the porcelain and ties the whole space together

💡 Being an electrician, our client knew exactly how important lighting would be to bring the garden to life after dark. We installed profile for two Orca LED lighting strips to the front of each patio, creating a stunning contrast between the porcelain and the artificial lawn. To finish it off, low-profile brass downlights were integrated into the sleeper wall, adding a subtle, premium look that really comes alive at night.

Completed a few weeks ago, just in time for the summer months, this garden is now the perfect place to relax, entertain and enjoy all year round.

✨From tired and weathered to looking like new! ✨

This 120m² sandstone patio has been completely brought back to life! 🙌

✔️ Thorough deep clean & jet wash using sandstone-safe professional products to remove years of black spot and organic growth.
✔️ Ground out and removed all the old failing brush-in grout.
✔️ Re-pointed with a premium 2-part resin buff-coloured grout for a durable, long-lasting finish.
✔️ Finished with a colour-enhancing sealer to revive the natural tones of the sandstone while adding long-lasting protection.

The difference speaks for itself – the stone is full of colour again, the joints are solid, and the whole patio looks like new. Another happy customer! 👌

Another driveway transformation completed by BY Design & Build 🔥

Our client was having ongoing problems with a recently installed block paved driveway. The original sub-base had failed, leaving huge puddles across the drive every time it rained, and visually it lacked any character — more like a car park than a welcoming entrance to their home.

Working closely with the client, we designed a brighter, more practical driveway that not only solved the drainage issues but completely changed the look of the property.

We installed a stunning Black Ice gravel from to improve drainage and create a clean modern appearance, framed with a charcoal block border to give the driveway a sharp defined edge. To add some character, we created a curved planter feature filled with (soon to be) colourful plants, beautiful laurel bushes, and a cherry blossom tree from that will look incredible as it matures 🌸

To finish the project, we installed a resin step using materials from for a clean and durable entrance.

🚧 Full tarmac driveway transformation complete 🚧

We’ve just finished this 160m² tarmac driveway and what a difference it’s made to the front of these two properties 🏡✨

To ensure a long-lasting, high-quality finish, we carried out:

🔹 Installed 14m of 6x5 road kerbs across the entrance to stop rainwater running onto the drive and to create a strong edge for the new tarmac 🌧️
🔹 Laid sandstone cobble sets to separate the tarmac from the decorative gravel – adding a clean, premium look 🧱👌
🔹 Fully jet washed & applied tack coat to maximise the bond between old and new surfaces
🔹 Regulated approx 2 tonne of tarmac into failed areas before overlay
🔹 Installed a full 40mm tarmac overlay across the entire driveway 🚜
🔹 Adjusted gates & garage doors to suit new levels
🔹 Laid 12 tonne of decorative gravel to finish off the surrounding areas ✨

The result? A clean, durable and premium finish that completely transforms the entrance to both homes 🔥

A job we completed in Shrewsbury a couple of weeks ago installing sandstone coping stones to the top of this flat roof extension 🏡

Finished with a colour-matched pointing grout, giving it a clean, seamless look that really finishes the extension properly 👌

This one was all about creating a practical, family-friendly space ready for the warmer months ahead.

We completely redesigned the garden to make it safer, more usable, and easier to maintain:

✅ Installed a 6m x 7m barked play area framed with solid wooden sleepers
✅ Extended the patio to create more room for outdoor furniture & entertaining
✅ Added gravel surrounding the patio for improved drainage
✅ Re-levelled the entire lawn area

Not all bark is suitable for play areas. Here’s why choosing correctly matters:

🔹 Impact protection – Proper play-grade bark helps absorb impact from trips and falls.
🔹 Correct depth = safety – A sufficient thickness (usually 100–300mm depending on use) provides proper cushioning.
🔹 Longer lasting – Play bark is more durable and breaks down slower than decorative bark.
🔹 Improved drainage – The right bark allows water to drain through, preventing pooling and muddy patches.

This small front garden was difficult to mow and maintain, and during the winter months it became muddy and impractical — meaning wet grass and dirt were constantly being brought into the home 🚶‍♂️🌧️

We transformed the space into a low-maintenance, fully usable area, giving the client a clean, practical solution that also provides additional parking when needed 🚗

This project showcases the striking contrast between black limestone paving and a grey sandstone cobbled border, creating a bold yet timeless finish that truly elevates the outdoor space 🖤🤍

To ensure longevity and a flawless finish, we used ProJoint Titan epoxy jointing compound, providing strength, durability, and a clean, consistent joint that will stand the test of time.

Attention to detail doesn’t stop at installation. We returned six weeks later, allowing the natural salts within the limestone to fully release before applying a natural limestone sealer. This final step locks in the true, dark tones of the stone, enhances colour depth, and provides long-term protection against the elements ✨

A carefully planned process, quality materials, and the right timing — all part of delivering a premium result for our clients.
