A new loo?
Where?
There!
There?
There, in the stair!
Well I declare!
I would like to apologise to all those who have been trying to contact me recently. I have been very, very busy.I now have a very long list of missed calls and enquiries to respond to.
This little epic adventure has been keeping me well occupied.
In a nutshell!
A new ensuite, toilet and basin cloakroom, installed into an old staircase.
Episode 1.
Very old building. Estimated at +350 years? The room itself needed to be built first. Including the removal of the existing Horse hair and mud rendered, lathe and plaster and cobb walls and straw ceiling. “A square peg, into a round hole”. Etc etc.
Old, very old, roughly, hand crafted and bespoke timbers and support lintels being discovered along the route. Resulting in some incredibly long and strong, resin injection fixed bolts and big beams being used to bring the building up to date before even considering installing the floor. Timber framing and cement bonding were used to compensate for the irregularities in the old walls and new insulation to fill the cavities.
The plumbing bit; FAR too many photos to show them all. Feeds being taken from the kitchen, into the lounge floor, down into the cellar, across the cellar ceiling, back up into lounge floor, up the old stairs and ready to connect under the new floor. A macerater unit was used for the waste. Down the stairs, into and across cellar ceiling, out through the very thick walls, converted to copper, cemented into front step and installed into external drain pipe.
Plastering and Painting & Decoration , a shared operation between both Bignells and Hobsons.
