Last week we carried out a cylinder change for a customer in Bassett, Southampton. Converting their system from a standard, low pressure vented system with tanks in a loft, to a 210l indirect unvented Megaflo complete with the sealing of the central heating system.

We recently did a cloakroom revamp for a customer in Whiteley. Removed existing toilet, basin and tiles ready for new floor to go down.

Then re-fitted a nice new fresh back to wall toilet and basin pedastool. Customer will tile himself.

These tips are especially relevant in areas experiencing prolonged hot, dry conditions or where local water suppliers have asked customers to conserve water.

1. Use water wisely and check for leaks, a quick inspection can save money and conserve water.

2. Protect outdoor pipes and hoses: prolonged
sun exposure can damage hoses, plastic fittings, and above-ground pipework.

3. Be mindful of increased water pressure. In some areas, demand fluctuations can affect water pressure. If clients notice unusually high or low pressure, they should have it checked before it causes damage.

4. Keep an eye on hot water systems. Hot weather can make water heaters work differently, especially if they’re located in lofts or garages. Any signs of leaks, unusual noises, or inconsistent temperatures should be investigated.

5. Know where the stopcock is. Make sure everyone in the household knows how to turn off the water supply quickly if a pipe bursts or a leak develops.

6. Maintain outdoor drains and gullies. Dry weather can allow leaves, dirt, and debris to build up. Clearing them before summer storms helps prevent flooding when heavy rain arrives.

7. Watch for signs of ground movement. Extended dry spells can cause soil shrinkage, particularly in clay-rich areas, which may place stress on underground pipework. Cracks in driveways, unexpected damp patches, or drops in water pressure could indicate a problem.

8. Book preventative maintenance. Summer is often a good time to have plumbing systems inspected before colder weather returns, helping identify small issues before they become major repairs.

If you notice anything unusual, it’s always better to get it checked early rather than wait for it to become a bigger problem.
