Apprentice Sash Window Specialist (Carpentry & Decorating)
Are you the kind of person who gets a weird amount of satisfaction from seeing a piece of old, weathered wood look brand new again? Do you have a steady hand, an eye for detail, and a desire to learn a "proper" trade that isn't just assembling flat-pack furniture?
At Avon Sash Repairs, we don’t just fix windows; we’re in the business of architectural CPR. We specialize in the traditional restoration, joinery, and painting of classic sash windows. We’re looking for a motivated apprentice to join our small, expert team and learn the ropes (and the pulleys) of heritage restoration.
The Role: What You’ll Be Doing
This isn't your average "sweep the floor" apprenticeship. You’ll be on-site and in the workshop, getting hands-on with:
Traditional Joinery: Learning how to splice timber, repair rotten sills, and rebuild window sashes using traditional methods.
Glazing & Putty Work: Master the delicate art of removing old glass and applying smooth, professional putty lines.
The Finish: High-end prep and painting. We’re talking "mirror-finish" levels of decorating to protect our woodwork for decades to come.
The Mechanics: Re-cording, balancing weights, and ensuring a 100-year-old window slides like it’s brand new.
Who You Are
You don’t need a CV full of experience, but you do need:
An Obsession with Detail: If you’re the type to "measure twice, cut once," you’ll fit right in. If you think "near enough is good enough," this probably isn't the job for you.
Reliability: Our clients have beautiful homes, and they expect us to show up when we say we will.
A "Can-Do" Attitude: Restoring windows is dusty and physical, and sometimes involves working at heights. You’ll need a bit of grit.
A Creative Spark: You enjoy working with your hands and take pride in seeing a finished product.
Why Join Us?
Learn a Niche Trade: Traditional restoration is a high-demand, specialized skill set that few people possess.
Variety: Every window tells a story. You won’t be stuck in a factory doing the same thing every day.
A Supportive Crew: We’re a small team. You’ll get direct mentorship from master craftsmen
