I'm really excited to be talking at tomorrow at 78 Derngate The Charles Rennie Mackintosh House in Northampton.
I will be talking about landscape design, some of my career highlights and how landscape design can benefit your project or outdoor space.
Matthew Plowe from Millboard will then be showcasing some of their innovative landscape products.
Thanks MWK Architects for creating this inspirational event!

Read my advice on choosing a garden studio in the latest blog post on Green Retreats website...linked below.

As part of the garden design scheme on this project, I advised that the studio had dark cladding and that the fences were painted black to make the boundaries recede, resulting in the garden feeling bigger. I also designed some black powdercoated arches at the midway point of the garden to add vertical interest and balance the space.
If you need advice choosing a garden studio or to maximise your gardens potential, please get in touch I'd be delighted to help.

It was 15 years ago today that I started my garden design business.
I wasn't sure what photo to post to mark this occasion, there are too many gardens to choose from, so I went with this one of me in a suitably celebratory pose and outfit 😆
I clearly remember phoning HMRC to register as self employed 15yrs ago and it all suddenly felt real! My dream of having my own business had begun. I remember my first ever client; still keep in touch with them and love hearing about how much they are enjoying their garden to this day. The first chunk of my business career was spent gaining client projects and experience...I decided to also work for paving suppliers and plant nurseries alongside my business. This was hugely beneficial, giving me an insight into the key supply chains in the industry and building important contacts. I also spent most of my time looking at drawings and specifications which was brilliant. I did this for 7 years and spent my evenings and weekends designing gardens-busy girl! I went full time with my garden design work in 2019, the same year I created my first show garden, achieving a Platinum medal!
Garden Design is so rewarding and I love being my own boss even though at times I think it would be nice to just switch off "mentally" at 5pm, like I imagine others do in employment.
With no Show Gardens planned for me in 2024 I'm enjoying a year of exciting projects and inspiration ready for my next big challenge, yet to be decided.
Here are a few key things I've achieved over those 15 years;
⭐️Gold medal for Liz Earle Beauty Co show garden 2023
⭐️Platinum medal for High Line show garden 2019
⭐️Best Construction Award 2019 & 2023
⭐️Show Garden judge at BBC GWL Beaulieu 2023
⭐️Best Garden Designer Warwickshire - Muddy Stilettos Award 2021
⭐️shortlisted ProLandscaper Garden Designer of the year 2020
⭐️Best Garden & Landscape Design Midlands - Build Awards 2020
⭐️Best Garden & Landscape Design Warwickshire - Build Awards 2019
⭐️Designed over 200 gardens
⭐️Designed 2 special Hospital Gardens

Vehicle security is becoming a priority on my client's design briefs for front gardens and driveways.
I used timber feature posts here alongside electric bollards to keep my clients cars secure. These run along the front of the parking area to prevent thefts but also provide some vertical interest, softened by the Calamagrostis x acutiflora 'Karl Foerster' grass which next spring/summer will provide a soft, wafty hedge...working with all the muted warm tones used on the house build.
Front gardens are an opportunity for subtle detail, scroll through to see some of those. I used granite setts within the resin bound gravel to define zones and pathways and planting to frame, screen and soften.

Whether your garden is an expansive family garden or a small courtyard it's important to zone the space. This makes a garden feel bigger, more interesting and inviting. You should want to explore a garden and not see it all at once.
Loved designing this garden in it includes spaces to cook, dine, lounge plus a garden studio with lots of planting to enhance and frame the zones.
Don't be scared to break a big lawn up 💚

Show season continues and I've loved watching Carol Klein's garden at take shape. She's been named as this year's RHS Hampton Court Iconic Horticultural Hero.
It was great to meet Carol on my last month .
We had a good chat and when I asked her what she thought of the space she said, "it's very calm, unlike your outfit!" Haha..she went on to say her mum had made her a very similar outfit when she was younger 😁💖
Carol had a photoshoot on the garden for her own portfolio, which I took as a huge compliment 🙌
Lovely to meet you Carol, well done on your stunning garden at I look forward to seeing it in person later this week
