💡 The right lighting changes everything.

You can nail the flooring, the tiles, the paint… and still get a room completely wrong if the lighting is an afterthought. Get it right, and everything else just glows.

🛏 In the bedrooms: layered lighting. Statement globe ceiling lights, soft wall sconces for a cosy evening glow, and black switch plates to tie in neatly with the black window frames.

🪜 Over the stairwell: a cluster of glass bubble pendants through a double-height space with a skylight. Natural light by day, a warm focal point by night.

🚿 In the cloakroom: a clean round flush light to keep things modern, sitting perfectly against the moody blue fluted vanity and matte black brassware.

Every fitting was chosen for its spot, and the wiring, switching, and placement were planned from first fix, not squeezed in at the end. That’s the difference proper planning makes.

Quiet on here for a week, but not quiet on site.

Thats usually how it goes. The diary fills up, the vans are out before seven, and social media slips behind the things that actually matter: getting a family's power back on, completing an EICR properly (not quickly), and making sure a consumer unit change leaves a home safer than we found it.

We'd rather be the team that turns up when we say we will than the one with the tidiest feed.

Fun Electrical Facts

⚡ 5 electrical facts that sound made up but aren't:

1️⃣ Electrons in a wire actually move painfully slowly — slower than a snail. What travels near light-speed is the electrical signal, not the electrons themselves. The light switches on instantly; the electrons are in no rush.

2️⃣ The UK plug is considered one of the safest designs in the world. Individually fused, shuttered sockets, earth pin engages first — genuinely over-engineered compared to most countries.

3️⃣ Cragside House in Northumberland became the first home in the world lit by hydroelectric power, back in the 1880s. Victorian Britain, sorting out renewable energy before it was cool.

4️⃣ The "War of Currents" between Edison (DC) and Tesla (AC) in the 1880s basically decided how every home on Earth would be wired. AC won — it's why your sockets deliver alternating current today.

A week in the life of a Lumiel engineer.

Six jobs, six very different problems to solve:

🔹 Full rewire: period property — first-fix cabling through original lath and plaster, working around the age of the building without cutting corners on the standard.

🔹 EICR & condition report — full testing against BS 7671, results documented and explained in plain English for the landlord.
