My painting of Airspeed Oxford Mk I T1264 of 6 Pilot Advanced Flying Unit, flying over Chipping Norton. This aircraft had taken off from Chipping Norton Relief Landing Ground on 25th May 1942 in conditions of strong wind and bumpy air flow. Attempting to land back at the airfield, the aircraft bounced heavily and the pilot opened up to go round again. It is thought he raised the flaps to quickly and too low an altitude, the aircraft lost height rapidly and crashed on the Burford Road. The pilot, Sergeant Bernard Williams was killed in the crash. Lest we forget.
