This bathroom transformation is almost complete.

I made and fitted this eaves cabinet and panelling a couple of weeks ago which is now fully painted and finished to compliment that gorgeous freestanding bath.

The brief for the room was to create a subtle feature panel wall that wraps around the cabinet to blend them together, with a door that can clear the towel rail when open.

The cabinet had to house the electrics for charging and utility controls, as well as all toiletries, cleaning supplies and the hoover.

Next up in the coming weeks is to make and fit solid oak skirting to tie in with their beams and doors.

I recently helped someone realise a project that they had been working on for 5+ years.

They wanted to create some interesting speaker stacks and had already had the main body CNC machined.

I was then asked to make some angled Sapele toppers.

I began by jointing two pieces together then used a router to precisely copy the stack below as they weren’t 100% equal (due to the previous persons assembly).

I then used the spindle moulder to add the heavy chamfer detail before cutting out the speaker section and final fitting it to the stack.

Really happy with the final product 👍

By the skin of my teeth we completed the dolls house in time for my daughter for Christmas morning 🎄🎁

Based on the house from UP I made a lot of design decisions as I went along.

I began the project thinking it would take 2 days… After a lot of over engineering and extra aesthetic touches it definitely took longer but the smile on my daughter’s face was worth every second.

The trickier details were the gable roof, bay window, sash windows, hinging the front door and the porch.

It was definitely the definition of a “labour of love” but I’m really proud of what my wife and I have created together.

As the working year has drawn to a close I thought I would share the last project delivered to a lovely customer last week.

Made to exacting specifications this large live edge Oak table (2.35 x 1.2m) turned out beautifully 💚🌳

The customer requested wide characterful staves which I strengthened from below with steel C channel, stabilising any significant splits/ knots with a combination of butterfly shaped inlays and polyamide filler.

Also made was a matching live edge raised table topper to protect it from hot serving dishes.

As their table is set and I have put the finishing touches to my daughters Dolls house, I wish everyone and their loved ones a safe and happy holidays 🎄

Father Christmas has been busy in the workshop this morning working on a project for my most important customer of the year…. My Daughter.

Only a carpenter Dad says to his wife “you can’t buy that, I’ll make one” 🤣 and the long enduring wife reluctantly agrees.

Based on pictures of the house from UP I designed a house and started making it a couple of weeks ago.
Mainly windows, doors and facias left to go…. Turns out making lots of tiny windows takes a long time… wish me luck as we still need to paint it all before the big day 🙈

I recently completed this Oak larder project.

The client already had old, worn existing melamine shelving with metal supporting framework.

The project scope was to reduce the visual impact of the framework by removing the bottom uprights, replacing them with solid Oak pillars and renew all shelving with oak to bring some warmth and class to this small space.

Using high quality oak veneered birch ply, I scribed in new shelving to the walls, made and fitted thicker solid oak lipping and fitted it all in place.

Accompanied by their new light fitting the room has become an extended feature of their kitchen rather than a cold cave to hide away.

As we come into a cold patch, I got this warming customer picture from a media wall project I completed at the end of the summer, now that it’s finally been painted 🙂

This monster unit with 35mm thick uprights is 4.5m long and was scribed around the fireplace with fire retardant plywood.

The customers specification was for a randomised art gallery feel to the layout and I think it works perfectly in their home 🔥 🎨

The most time consuming stage of the entire chair this week was preparing and shaping the seat.

We started with an adze (think curved axe crossed with a croquet mallet 🤣) to remove the bulk of the waste, then progressed to the travisher, later using a mixture of rasps, spokeshaves and a card scraper to achieve the hollowed seat area and the shaped edges.

This process was made worse by my choice of characterful Beech, as the grain was all over the shop and did not want to be tamed.

I persevered and after one relatively late finish I got there in the end 💪

On a Windsor Chair making course this week for professional development at

I have been committing time throughout this year to progress my learning in furniture making techniques, which has culminated in my most exciting course of the year!

By the end of this week I will be leaving with a continuous arm Windsor chair which I have made.

We began yesterday by steam bending the single piece of ash which will act as both the crest and arms of the chair.

We then produced 13 spindles with a taper, and sanded our leg/ stretcher blanks on the lathe to place in a drying box until Wednesday.

We ended the day by selecting our timber for our seat base and rough cut it to shape on the bandsaw.

Repair work has been on my jobs list a bit more this summer with yet another door jamb repair for this garage annexe.

The very bottom of the jamb and the facia pieces were rotten beyond saving, so I replicated the existing jambs from and spliced the new pieces in.

The sapele door step also hadn’t been properly damp proofed/ fixed in place so whilst I was there I put a membrane under the step and fixed it in place before installing my jamb repairs.

A fun detail on this was the rebate for the doors drip rail to sit in when closed. Pleased with how it all turned out.

One piece of repair work I completed recently for a customer was to replace both rotten door jambs on an old out building.

Upon removal of the old jambs I found literally hundreds of wood louse who had claimed it as their home.

I made sure they were all gone before then replacing both jambs with , rehanging the door and sealing the gap for both weather and bug protection.

As an added surprise for the customer I removed the old oak door threshold that had seen better days and replaced it with a new one so that everything was fresh again 👌

A bit of Sandringham Mellow Oak flooring in the afternoon sun on a revisit to this client for another job this week.

What I love about this particular floor is that it looks like it’s original to the building. A great selection for this period property.

All snugly fit under the kickboards and skirting for a clean finish, ready for the dressing room to be completely repainted 👌
