Carlo Ancelotti returned to Valdebebas today — now as Brazil head coach, checking in on his Brazilian internationals Vinícius Jr., Endrick, Rodrygo and Éder Militão ahead of Real Madrid’s clash with Real Betis.

He also caught up with old friend José Mourinho, offering a strong endorsement: “My relationship with him has been very good for a long time. Jose is a great coach and I’m convinced he’s going to do a very good job here.”

The end of an era at the Emirates. ✅🇧🇷

Gabriel Martinelli has officially completed his move to Al-Hilal for a club-record €70m fee — the biggest sale in Arsenal’s history. The Brazilian winger arrived from Ituano for just €7.1m in 2019 and leaves having made 278 appearances and scored 62 goals, winning the Premier League title last season.

He’d fallen down the pecking order under Mikel Arteta this season, having previously turned down a €45m offer from Galatasaray before Al-Hilal made their move.

Dortmund’s English pipeline continues. ✨🟡

Ethan Nwaneri has joined Borussia Dortmund on a season-long loan from Arsenal, triggered by Giannis Konstantelias’ ACL injury. The 19-year-old follows a well-worn path of young English talent developing at the Westfalenstadion, from Jadon Sancho to Jude Bellingham to Jamie Gittens.

He’ll link up with fellow Englishman Jobe Bellingham, who’s already been talking him into the move. No purchase option is attached, but Arsenal have secured a recall clause for the January window.

A saga with no winners. 😳

Richarlison has been left out of Tottenham’s Premier League squad completely. Every club must submit a list of 25 senior players, and Spurs chose not to include him — head coach Roberto De Zerbi said the Brazilian had “asked too many times” to leave.

A proposed return to Everton collapsed after Richarlison rejected the personal terms on offer, with Iliman Ndiaye going the other way to Man City instead. Trabzonspor have since made a couple of bids, both rejected by Spurs, though Richarlison has reportedly agreed personal terms verbally.

The Turkish transfer window closes September 4. If no deal happens, Richarlison won’t be able to play competitive football until the January window.

Marcos Llorente has announced his retirement from international football at 31, weeks after lifting the World Cup with Spain. “After a long time of turning around, I’ve decided to close my stage with the National Team,” he wrote.

The Atlético Madrid man made 27 appearances for Spain since his senior debut under Luis Enrique in November 2020, representing his country at Euro 2020 and two World Cups. He insisted the decision had nothing to do with his playing time this summer — he’d already made up his mind before the tournament even began.

You can’t script a better ending than this.
