This week Distinction Electrical completed the 2921-34 EV installation course and related examination in Bristol.

Until now, EV charger installers have not required this specific qualification however from October 2026 it is essential that it is held for working compliance, and the simple ability to sign off an EV installation and notify local building control and the National Grid.

First job this morning, where I was called out to investigate a non functional EV charger.

Poorly connected, loose terminations meant that this RCD had become that hot, thermal damage was visible on the outer casing, and luckily in a way, rendered it completely inoperable.

If you choose to use companies like Octopus, for your EV install, remember that they're commissioned to install 3 or 4 in a day! You won't get the level of time, care and quality of someone local, and you definitely won't have someone readily available to investigate before your loft goes up in flames.

RCD replaced, fully tested, and recommissioned, all before breakfast.
