Door-to-Door

PORTA WORKSHOP & INTRO TO CARPENTRY with StorqueStudios
This is a 2 day Workshop at Equivalentbehaviour, where you will be making your own trestle table based on a newly conceived Storquestudios Design.

We will be harnessing the idea of porta (meaning "entrance", or "gate"), by accommodating panel doors in the completion of the design. Door panels will be provided, and you will learn how to restore and re-purpose them as table tops.

What to expect in the Porta Workshop:
* An introduction to Carpentry skills (including the use of simple power tools such as a mitre saw, impact/ combi drills, and hand tools).
* An introduction to using hand tools
* An introduction to restoring/ re-purposing materials (We will be utilising doors for the trestle table tops, and will be teaching how to restore and re-purpose them so you can take them with you)
* An introduction to Storquestudios design practice
A little bit about the teacher:

KavczuK, Wojtek Kawczyk is the maker behind StorqueStudios, a mikro design practice based in London/Tottenham. Wojtek primarily works with wood waste and the revitalisation of ‘unwanted’ objects. He is focused on the principle of circular economy; working collaboratively with other makers, he captures available construction materials to understand it's inherent properties. Studying the navigation of form and behaviour becomes inspiration for new projects. His aim is to challenge the design discipline, by bringing unconventional solutions to the ‘table’. Through waste management, his practice opens up new studies of materials through function and form.

PORTA WORKSHOP and intro to Carpentry with Storquestudios
26th & 27th of April, 2025 Equivalentbehaviour N15 4QL LONDON

This is a 2 day Porta Workshop where you will be making your own trestle table to take home.

The trestle table you will be making, is a newly established design, and part of a wider Porta project from Storquestudios. The idea for this model, has stemmed from a metal component design that accommodates prefabricated waste elements such as ply-wood.

Through making and working with Storquestudios, you will start to understand the concept and methodology behind furniture making. Through acquiring simple skills, you can see how a trestle is made and be a part of the process.

This Workshop is stimulated by Enzo Mari’s concept of sharing design, and progressively thinking in how skills can influence understanding.

REEMIX....it all goes together

Enough is enough... If we could only deeply reflect on the production of every day's Gooods, we may come to realise that "we" are producing enough, and there is enough stuff to satisfy our needs. On the other hand, harsh exploitative capitalism is hungry every day. Manufacturers introduce new Products and solutions with endless variations of the same. The "Design" discipline is Allured by trends and temporary fashions that leave a tragic inprint in our land... Can we think pragmatically? Can we form solutions to liberate us from illusional e-commerce's and object welfare zones, where all needs flow in a digital waterfall?

Storquestudios would like to propose a design solution that is entrenched in our research and ethos, and is 100% derivative of the current consumer market. Its form and look is represented by the fluxsation of material used in specialised consumer requests; this is custom made furniture. We would like to introduce the Reemix, a Simple modular system that is nonchalantly constructed from all possible surplus and leftover material; the negative space in bespoke word. MDF, CHIP-BOARD, VALCHROMAT, PLYWOOD for example, are blended together to form utilitarian blocks.

ARKADIUSZ YELLOW BOX TABLE

In 2022 I was lucky to travel to this exotic land of Australia... I had the pleasure of constructing a large dining table for the Stamatopoulos' Family base, a beautifully located farm in Dungog.
Material was just there waiting to be worked with; a couple of large Yellow Box Construction beams coming from a recent farm building modification. This rock-hard Yellow Box Eucalyptus wood brought a challenge leading to unexpected encounters. The people involved throughout this journey make the object special, which is registered in it's form
Helen and George Stamatopoulos; without You this project wouldn't have a chance to happen! From the depth of my heart thank you so much for Your trust and collaboration during the creative process.
This special piece wouldn't come to form without Nevill Scuse, a great neighbour who facilitated the wood machining on his killer portable wood mill. A big fat shout to and John from in Sydney who accommodated us in the workshop and took responsibility for finishing touches...

I called that table Arkadiusz; which is a tribute to my Grandfather Arkadiusz Zajda who contributed the most to my adventure as a maker!
