What do you think ? Coloured Shou Shogi Ban. The Japanese Tradition of burning wood to make it last 10x longer (120+years) outside. Burn it- brush it- colour it - is big in America, BUT what do you think? Do you think it has a place in British furniture??

How do you bend wood ? I did a process called Glulam….. lots of thin strips of wood glued /resined together. Lots of classic tight joinery , lots of router work to recess the glass - on a curve !! Whole job was incredibly interesting.

Dodging the North Wales rain. I was lucky enough to install these 15cm x 15cm LARCH gate posts and small section of fence. Cut the post into the rock for extra stability 💥

Not my official line of work but anything is great when you can get a good result. If you ever have to scrape gloss paint ( because it’s so chipped) use a tungsten carbide scraper- you’ll enjoy using it - and amazingly fast results

Before modern glues were available this was the way to secure a mortise and tenon joint. As the wood expands and contracts the square peg won’t fall out like a round one.

This is a small experiment for a bigger project ( testing the theory ) Black American Walnut, English Oak, Scots Pine, English Ash and Iroko all set in Black Resin ( and my favourite lamp ….again) Note the grain orientation- nearly perfect and the knot of the English Oak centre for interest.
