🪵 Not all pergolas are built the same... and that's okay, as long as you know what you're paying for.

When comparing quotes, don't just look at the final price. Ask a few important questions:

✔️ What size posts are being used?
✔️ Is the main beam suitable for the span?
✔️ How are the rafters fixed?
✔️ How deep are the post foundations?
✔️ Is the timber pressure treated?
✔️ Is the structure designed to take the weight of a future roof covering if you ever decide to add one?
✔️ Are braces there for strength, or simply for appearance?

At Dan's Good Wood Shop, we don't aim to be the cheapest. We aim to build structures we'd be happy to have in our own garden – using chunky timber, proper foundations, and designs tailored to how you'll actually use the space.

A pergola should be more than something that looks nice on day one. It should still look good and feel solid years down the line.

🪵 TIMBER PRICES ARE WILD... 🪵

Back in 2015, £1,000 could've bought enough timber to build half the street a pergola, a fence and probably a small ark for when British summer arrived. 🌧️

Fast forward to 2026 and £1,000 gets you:
✅ A handful of posts
✅ A few lengths of 4x2
✅ A carrier bag full of screws
✅ A complimentary nervous breakdown at the timber yard checkout

At this rate we're considering building pergolas out of hopes, dreams and recycled pallets. 😂

🌿 Another happy customer ticked off the list! 🌿

We've now wrapped up Bob & Gillian's garden transformation, completing three bespoke pergolas, a brand-new handcrafted gate complete with a personalised oak house sign, and relocating the existing gate to create full access around the garden. 🚪✨

The new entrance should help keep deliveries heading to the front door where they belong, whilst blending perfectly into its surroundings.

A huge thank you to Bob & Gillian for trusting us with another bespoke project. 🪵🔨

Next up, we're heading to Great Sutton, Ellesmere Port, where work begins on a large bespoke pergola complete with a rubber roof. Keep an eye on the page to follow the build! 👀🌿

🔨 Another scorcher of a day, but Dan's been back at it! ☀️💪

Today saw the removal of an old gate and a post that could've given Thor a run for his money ⚡, followed by the installation of a brand-new gate, two new posts, and a completely bespoke personalised house sign.

Everything is braced up for tonight to allow it to set properly, with the finishing touches happening tomorrow, including replacing an old fence panel with customers old gate to give our customers full access around their home. 🚪🏡

Photos coming tomorrow... and we think this one is going to look rather smart! 👀✨

Three bespoke pergolas completed in 🌿

Just before we headed off to Greece, we completed the largest pergola in the centre of the garden. After landing back on Tuesday, we were back with our customers on Thursday to finish the remaining two.

The aim was to add height, structure and interest to different parts of the garden, creating the perfect support for beautiful climbers 🌸✨

A late one for us today! 🌿🪚☕

Back to one of our lovely customers this morning to prep for two more bespoke pergolas 🏡.

Groundworks are complete and setting nicely overnight ready for the next stage 💪.

We also popped out to visit another customer booked in for the week commencing 29th to finalise the design for their bespoke pergola with a rubber roof 📐📝.

Now it's back home for us... and it's all about prep, prep, prep! 😅🔨

We've collected our two tired holidaymakers - judging by these photos, they had an extremely tough week of naps, treats and being thoroughly spoilt. 😂🐾

🏖️ Holiday mode: nearly over... 🏖️

Tomorrow is a day of airports, suitcases and travelling home, and then we'll be collecting Gary and Arthur from their own little holiday. 🐾

A huge thank you to everyone who's messaged, booked in, and patiently waited while we've been away.

We'll be back to reality, back to the dogs, and back to building from Thursday. We've got plenty of exciting projects lined up and can't wait to get stuck in.
