A before-and-after, that highlights the power of thoughtful detailing.

This Horizon Walk-On Rooflight has been integrated flush within a raised terrace, delivering natural daylight to the interior below while preserving a clean, uninterrupted external surface.

A simple concept, executed through precise engineering, structural glazing and careful coordination with the paving design.

The best rooflights don't dominate a scheme; they become part of the architecture.

When a rooflight spec gets pushed back on, which requirement do you fight hardest to keep?

Genuinely curious whether it's regulatory, commercial, or something else entirely.

Comment if it's something the options don't cover. The "something else" answers are usually the most interesting.

Spec Tuesday: EN 17037, decoded.

When a daylighting assessment says a project complies with EN 17037, this is what actually changes:

➑️ More usable natural daylight throughout occupied spaces
➑️ Better occupant wellbeing, visual comfort, and connection to the outdoors
➑️ Reduced reliance on artificial lighting during daylight hours

EN 17037 evaluates four key aspects of daylight design:

β˜€οΈ Daylight provision
πŸ‘€ View out
🌀️ Access to sunlight
πŸ•ΆοΈ Protection from glare

For roof glazing, compliance often means larger daylit areas, improved daylight distribution, and stronger evidence for planning and sustainability targets.

Sunsquare SkyView systems are designed to maximise daylight performance.

𝐋𝐒𝐠𝐑𝐭 𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐬 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲𝐭𝐑𝐒𝐧𝐠.

A beautifully designed rooflight or roof lantern doesn’t just brighten a room; it lifts your mood, draws you in, and makes your home feel more connected to the sky above.

From modest extensions to expansive redesigns, overhead glazing helps spaces feel larger, lighter, and more inviting.

Pairing aesthetic refinement with everyday practicality, the right design becomes part of the way you live, not just the way your home looks.

Sunsquare can help make this possible‡️

Six bespoke SkyView rooflights. One Β£13.8m engineering faculty.

Zero compromise between daylight and thermal performance.
Brunel University's Wilfred Brown Building needed an abundance of natural light for its College of Engineering, without breaching strict public-sector energy targets.

The specification:

➑️ 4 atrium rooflights at 1514 x 3514mm to flood the central space
➑️ 2 stairwell units to open up the darker corners
➑️ Fully thermally broken frames
➑️ SN70 solar control glass to stop summer overheating
➑️ Laminated inner panes for a high-traffic environment

The result: formerly dim spaces turned bright, with the U-value performance to keep the building compliant.

Most UK school refurbishments don't meet the daylight standard for classrooms.

EN 17037 asks for 300 lux across half the floor, for half of daylight hours.

A lot of buildings miss it.

The most cost-effective fix is also the simplest.

A properly specified roof skylight. Right size, right glazing, for the space.

Sunsquare SkyView and Aero Access systems are specified in schools, colleges and campus projects across the UK.

Brighter classrooms, atriums and learning spaces.

Architects and specifiers in education: what's driving your rooflight spec more often right now, daylight compliance or fire rating?
