Roofing in progress! 🏗️⛪

We've been hard at work on the old Military Church in Canterbury recently, teaming up with the brilliant folks at Rye Roofing to give this historic building the roof it deserves.

The job's a complete strip of the existing slate tiling, new felt and batten throughout, and then carefully reinstating the original slates — preserving the character of the building while bringing everything back up to standard. All of this follows a large solar PV installation, marrying centuries-old heritage with clean, modern energy.

There's something special about working on a building that means so much to its community — and we don't take that responsibility lightly. Roofing a church isn't just about keeping the weather out. It's about protecting a building that has stood at the heart of its community for generations, and making sure it stands for generations more.

The question in the Astral office this week… does Karen have a shopping habit? 😅

Our Office Manager has had colleagues eyeing up the daily deliveries and wondering if she's developed a serious online shopping problem — parcels arriving with no let-up!

In her defence, it's all for a good cause. Karen's been gathering tombola prizes for the Santerpaws Bulgarian Rescue : Reg Charity No: 1183401 stall at Paws in the Park — one of our official partner charities. And there's method in the madness: some of the prizes contain alcohol and need signing for, so they come to the office where there's always someone to take them in. 🐾

So no, not a shopping habit… just a very good excuse. 💙

An honour to be part of this. ⛪

On Sunday, Astral was proud to attend the official opening of the newly refurbished church hall at St Henry & St Elizabeth Church in Sheerness, where Father Akilu cut the ribbon after morning mass.

As the contractor for this project, our team worked closely with the parish throughout to understand exactly what they needed and to deliver a hall ready to serve the community for years to come. Heritage buildings like this hold so much meaning for the people around them, and it was a privilege to help secure this one's future.

The words from the parish team meant a great deal to us:
"I can't thank you enough for the work that you and your guys have done on the Church hall. I think you have literally saved the building. Everyone is so excited about the opening and the possibilities of all the wonderful things that will happen there over the years."

Thank you to the parish for their warm welcome — and here's to everything that will happen in that hall for generations to come.

Then work begins. Floor levels vary, walls are rarely straight, and every barn hides something.

📦 A BIT OF FRIDAY FUN ...
Introducing… Astral Couriers? (Apparently.)

Well. Today has been a strange one!

It started with a lovely lady ringing the office: "Hiya, I've had a delivery turn up at my house — but it's for Astral." Easy mistake, we thought — probably a neighbour and they've mixed up door numbers. So we said not to worry, we'd pop round and grab it. "Whereabouts are you?"

"Queensway, Sheerness."

…Right. We've since racked our brains and genuinely cannot work out how you get from our address in Bluetown mixed up with Queensway. Not a similar number. Not a similar street name... A mystery for the ages. 🕵️

So Karen offers to collect it after lunch and nips out for a bite — only to find TWO enormous boxes dumped outside our door. So big we could barely get out. Sanitiser. Cleaning products. Gallons of the stuff. We check the label…

"The Admiral's Arm, Queenborough."

At this point we simply accept our new life. A quick call to the — "Ooh brilliant, we've been waiting for those!" — and off Karen trots: drops the cleaning supplies to the pub in Queenborough, then carries on to Queensway to rescue our own wandering parcel.

So if you need something delivered on the Island today… it seems, just ring Astral. Apparently we're couriers now too!😅😅

Construction has changed — technology, regulations and client expectations all evolving, and rightly so.

Yet some things remain timeless: relationships, trust, reputation.

The best projects are carried by strong partnerships, not paperwork — everyone pulling towards a common goal. Because at its core, this has always been a people business.

The Six-Week Sprint Has Begun

The gates are shut, the classrooms are empty — and for us, the clock has just started.

Ever wondered how a school gets rebuilt without the children ever seeing a cement mixer? The answer is six weeks. The summer holidays are the one window we get, so a term's worth of work is planned down to the day, ready to hit the ground running the moment the last pupil leaves.

The sprint's now on - Come September, the children walk back into a finished job and never knew we were there. It takes military planning and a crew who don't panic when the clock's ticking — and off the back of our Aquila school projects, it's exactly the kind of job we're built for.

Well, the football may be finished & July is nearly at it's end but here at Astral we've got one last goal to reach before the month is out.🎯

All month, has pledged to match every donation to Santerpaws Bulgarian Rescue's land appeal, pound-for-pound — up to £75 here on Facebook (and another £75 over on our LinkedIn).

Thanks to some brilliant supporters, we're at £35 matched so far… which means there's still £40 of match funding on the table right here — and only until the final whistle at the end of tomorrow!

Every good story deserves a next chapter 📖✨

Last year our founder Paul told a local student journalist his mission was complete — a business that supported his family and the local building trade. Mission accomplished, Paul 👏

But the story doesn't stop there! Over to Adam and John:
