🌿 Every garden project starts with a conversation.

When we first visited this property, the discussion wasn’t about choosing paving. It was about understanding how the homeowners wanted to use the space and exploring the options available to them.

The finished garden includes a raised patio area with brick retaining walls featuring knapped flint detailing, natural sandstone paving, and new fencing that complements both the property and the surrounding garden.

The materials are important, but so are the conversations and decisions that happen before the build begins.

Those early discussions often have a bigger influence on the finished result than anything else.

With the amount of rain and unpredictable weather we get in the UK, ground conditions have become far more challenging.

Long wet periods can leave the ground heavily saturated 🌧️

Then when everything dries out through summer, the ground can start shrinking and shifting below the surface.

That movement underneath is one of the things that can affect your driveway or patio over time.

This is one of the reasons we use biaxial geogrid reinforcement within our driveway and patio build ups.

It sits within the foundation layers beneath the sub base and helps:

✔️ Improve load distribution
✔️ Reinforce the overall build up
✔️ Add greater structural integrity
✔️ Reduce movement within the sub base
✔️ Create a more stable foundation beneath the paving

Is it currently a requirement for every residential driveway or patio in the UK? No.

But after years of building driveways and patios across all sorts of ground conditions, it’s something we believe in and something we now include as standard within our build ups.

When you’re investing in a new driveway or patio, you want confidence that what sits underneath has been given just as much thought as the finished surface on top.

Not all driveway and patio build ups are the same, and a lot of the important details are buried underneath the finished surface.

We’re hiring 👷‍♂️

We’re looking for someone to join the team at Mammoth.

Ideally, you’ll have solid experience in hard landscaping and be comfortable working on garden room builds too.
If you’ve worked across both, you’ll fit in well with the type of projects we take on.

The role is PAYE, with holiday and pension included.
Salary will depend on your experience and what you can bring to the team, we’re happy to talk that through.

Most of our work is residential, and we take a lot of pride in how we run our projects and the finish we leave behind.

Built in the workshop, installed in a day 👌

This footbridge in Chesham for needed to be delivered and installed within a tight timeframe, so most of the work was completed off site before installation.

The structure was built at our workshop, fully assembled and pre drilled, then taken apart and delivered like a flat pack 😅

RSJ steel beams were installed first to form the base, with the bridge then assembled on site and completed in a single day 🔩

The frame is constructed from recycled plastic, with solid composite decking, chosen for durability and reduced maintenance over time 🕰️

A bit different from our usual projects, and one we really enjoyed delivering as a team 👷‍♂️

Now in place at Cannons Wood by the Moor in Chesham, replacing the existing bridge with a more durable long term solution 🌿
