Bathroom Refurbishment: A Bespoke Vanity Story
This bathroom refurb centres on a custom-built vanity unit finished in a rich walnut veneer, designed to bring warmth and a tailored, furniture-like feel to the space. Rather than an off-the-shelf unit, the cabinetry was built to fit the exact dimensions of the room, including a clever full-height shelving nook set into the mirror cabinet — perfect for a magnifying mirror, toiletries, or display pieces.
The vanity itself runs long and low, topped with a light, veined stone (marble or quartz) countertop that continues into a chunky waterfall-style front edge. An undermount rectangular basin sits beneath a sleek wall-mounted chrome tap and separate mixer, keeping the countertop clear and the lines clean.
Storage was clearly a priority — the unit houses a bank of soft-close drawers alongside a full-height cupboard, with the drawers cleverly compartmentalised (there’s even a small removable jewellery/accessory tray in the top drawer). Behind the cupboard door, the plumbing has been discreetly boxed in, with space concealed for a washing machine, keeping the room’s storage functional as well as good-looking.
Above, a full-width mirrored cabinet spans three panels, bouncing light around the room and doubling storage without visually crowding the space. It sits above a striking grey terrazzo-effect stone splashback that runs the width of the vanity and continues up the wall, paired with a narrow strip of vertical tongue-and-groove-style tiling directly behind the tap for texture.
Overall, it’s a considered, tailored piece of bathroom furniture — built-in rather than bought, and designed to work hard while looking like a genuine furniture piece rather than a standard bathroom unit.
