This 18 year old Sundance Spa had an issue with the PCB! The problem is, due to the age, original parts have become difficult to get your hands on and extra pricey if you can source! We fitted a Balboa BP2100 & TP700 pack to future proof the spa, update and improve functionality and for reliability! Nothing was standard on this job from the smaller plumbing fittings Sundance spas use due to an original different style heater, to the keypad backing hole size! This required the hole in the acrylic to be cut out much larger as there was no direct compatible replacement which would have fit nicely! Fired up and primed itself first time… a much upgraded display and back in the game for the customer! To replace the hot tub for a like-for-like 780 series Sundance Spas would be big money, and the spa is fully functional and high spec’d, so it was the best option!

We fit many packs for customers, and no two are usually the same, but this was a little different than most!

This unlucky customer had 2 leaks at either end of their hot tub, in the worst possible places! One was inaccessible, so the tub had to be emptied of insulation just to find it, then moved and stood up to tackle the plumbing from the underside! In both cases it was simply a joint on a manifold dripping… but the extent of plumbing required to replace these parts resulted in quite a bit of work! Either way, repaired, tested and good to go!

Call out for a tripping hot tub! In most cases when a hot tub is tripping, it’s related to either the heater or pump, tho PCB, optional blower or ozone can also cause it. Simply disconnect one component at a time to better test. Power down, disconnect and then power back up, never work on a live PCB! This spa had indications with rust built up around the pressure switch on the heater, so we disconnect the heater terminals first so it won’t draw power, power on at the mains and take a quick visual and see if it runs without tripping. On this visit, it looked like the pressure switch leaking, which was then tracking water along to the live heater terminals, causing tripping. After further testing, the whole heater needed replacing sadly as after replacing the pressure switch, we found the leak was coming through a corroded part of the heater. In most circumstances, when a heater trips it’s usually the element itself. Being the original heater at nearly 18 years old, it had done alright!

Hard to belive this hot tub is close to 15 years old! We reconditioned the cedar cabinet on it around 18 months ago, put a new lid on it and deep cleaned and serviced the spa at the same point. It was also fitted with an air source heat pump shortly after and new control system. This allows the spa to run much less frequently and uses less than 1kw of energy with an output of up to 5kws!

You could replace your old hot tub for new, but there may be more cost efficient options, whilst future-proofing!

A call out was booked for a leak on this round cove hot tub. On arrival, the spa was turned off… after removing the front panel to get access to the pack and pump, then firing the spa back on so it was under pressure, it was found that the heater was leaking on the union pictured. Heater barrel orings will set you back around £2.00, you can either drain the spa, have a go at doing it quickly with water in by simply unthreading the unions and replacing the oring/seal quickly (be prepared to get wet) or by using the gate valves/shut off valves to isolate parts of the pipe work, if your hot tub has these! This will cut off the water supply in runs of pipework. This one did have gate valves, but looked like a repair of sorts had been carried out at some point so I didn’t want to touch them…
Very simple, fast fix and quite common as these orings will wear down over time! Always worth visually checking both ends of the heater and pump if near, whilst you’re having a gander!

When we carry out a full service you will get a deep clean and valet on your spa as part of the service! In majority of cases, we can get them back to a ‘like new’ standard… we can sort staining, rusting and rust runs, scale removal from shell, add shine back to the cover and cabinet and remove mould from the underside of the cover! Book a full service if you want to treat your hot tub to the tlc treatment..

Measuring a hot tub cover for a replacement is fairly straight forward, though the vital part which is often overlooked by customers measuring their own, is the corner radius! The simple way to do this is use a straight edge (a bit of timber in this case) to measure across from where the corner starts to meet the straight edge! Common sizes are around 6” but they can range massively from 4” - 14”. If this is out, then the cover may not fit correct or could be much too large and this could lose efficiency! Length x Width x Radius x Drop (size of the skirt) is fundamental, and you can even stipulate where you want your straps by measuring them for a custom order… taper size is also optional for replacement to opt for a thicker cover (this is measuring the centre thickness and edge thickness as all covers should have a gradient to allow for water to run off).
