World Mental Health Week: Standing Up Against Road Worker Abuse
This World Mental Health Week, we’ve been shining a light on an issue that’s deeply personal to us at Cappagh, road worker abuse.
To explore this important topic, we recently took time out with AFC Wimbledon and some of their players to discuss the parallels between the abuse faced by footballers and that experienced by our road workers. The similarities are striking and remind us that, as an industry and as a community, we can all do more to create a culture of respect and understanding.
A huge thank you to AFC Wimbledon , Steve Seddon, and Omar Bugiel for joining us at Cappagh’s Head Office and sharing their experiences so openly. We’d also like to recognise Chez Salvador and Martin Harman, who stepped far outside their comfort zones to speak honestly about their own experiences with road worker abuse. Their openness and courage are a credit to our company and reflect the resilience of all our employees who face these challenges daily.
At Cappagh, we are committed to supporting our people through these difficult situations and continuing the honest conversations that help drive awareness and change.
It’s important to remember that one in four people in the UK will experience suicidal thoughts in their lifetime. You are not alone, please, if you’re struggling, reach out to someone. Whether it’s a colleague, a friend, or a professional, talking can make a real difference.
A Word from Martin Harman
"Working for Cappagh for the last 5 years I have made some good friends a colleagues.
I feel part of a team that supports each other through out the job roles, as a team leader I feel responsible for the guys that I work with to make sure they get home safe to there families, I could not do this without the support of the supervisors and management team.
In some cases dealing with the public that have gotten verbally and sometimes nearly physical I know I have the full backing of management to make decisions of dealing with the situations that we come across working in the public."
