Originally a medieval church, which was substantially rebuilt in 1713, retaining its 15th century west tower, this Grade I listed Church of St Mary in Charlton Marshall is a wonderful example of historic ecclesiastical architecture, with a rich history and distinctive architectural character. As the appointed Inspecting Architect for the church, Keith at RLM Architects is pleased to have been involved in its ongoing care and conservation.
The church has recently undergone a programme of internal redecoration and conservation works, including the careful preparation and redecoration of internal walls with traditional Soft Distemper lime paint from ‘Rose of Jericho’. These sensitive improvements have revitalised the interior, enhancing its historic features and allowing the craftsmanship and Georgian character of this beautiful building to be appreciated for years to come.
