How do we create a granite-effect finish without replacing your existing worktops? 👨🏻‍🎨

One of the questions we get asked is - “Is there anything you can do with my worktops?”

And the answer is yes.

Most people assume the only option is to replace them.

Our Spray Granite system is a specialist resurfacing process that transforms your existing worktops using real granite flakes, without the cost and disruption of replacing them.

Every project follows our four-stage process:

1. Preparation

Every surface is thoroughly cleaned, degreased and dustlessly sanded before a specialist adhesion primer is applied. This creates a solid foundation and ensures the new finish bonds correctly to your existing worktop.

2. Poly Rapid

Poly Rapid, our specialist resin-based primer, is then applied in your chosen background colour. This creates a strong bond between your existing worktop and the granite finish.

3. Real Granite Flakes

Your chosen granite-effect finish is created by professionally spraying real granite flakes across the surface, giving the appearance of natural stone.

4. Protective Finishes

Once the granite flakes have set, they’re carefully sanded smooth before Diamond Coat is applied, providing an antibacterial finish that’s ideal for busy kitchens.

Finally, Armour Guard is applied as the final protective finish. It’s available in matt, satin or gloss, allowing you to choose the finish that best suits your home.

With 22 granite-effect colours available, there’s something to suit every style of kitchen.

And it’s not just for worktops.

Part 2: The Finished Transformation 👨🏻‍🎨

Here’s the finished result.

These are the very same worktops you saw in Part 1.

On day two, the real granite flakes are carefully sanded to create a beautifully smooth surface while maintaining their natural stone appearance.

We then apply Diamond Coat, which provides an antibacterial finish and helps protect the surface for everyday use.

Finally, we apply Armour Guard, our final protective finish. This is available in matt, satin or gloss, allowing you to choose the finish that best suits your home.

To complete the transformation, we also hand-painted the existing tiles, helping to brighten the space and bring the whole kitchen together.

The result is a modern granite-effect finish without the cost or disruption of replacing the existing worktops.

Part 1: The Process 👨🏻‍🎨

How do we turn tired worktops into a beautiful granite-effect finish?

These are the original worktops. Before any products are applied, they go through a thorough preparation process to create a stable foundation.

First, we clean and degrease the entire surface before carrying out dustless sanding.

We then apply our specialist adhesion primer, followed by Poly Rapid, a specialist resin-based primer that creates a strong bond with the existing worktop.

Next comes the exciting part. Real granite flakes are professionally sprayed onto the surface to create a beautiful natural stone appearance.

At the end of day one, we leave everything to set before returning to complete the process.

Our hand-painted cabinetry diary is now fully booked for the rest of the year, and we’ve officially opened our 2027 diary.

Over the last few years, demand for our hand-painted cabinetry has continued to grow, and we’re incredibly proud that our diary now fills so far in advance.

We’ve worked hard to get to this point, and we’re so grateful for the continued support and trust our clients place in us. We’ve got some beautiful projects coming up over the next few months, and we can’t wait to share them with you.

We’re also very excited to share that we’ve expanded The Ugly Duckling team with another Spray Granite Specialist, meaning we can now take on more Spray Granite projects.

Spray Granite availability is now open from October 2026 onwards.

Most people think replacing the surface is the only option.

Spray Granite offers another way.

It’s a specialist application system that uses real granite flakes suspended in a water-based resin to create a natural granite-effect finish over existing surfaces. In many cases, it can be applied without removing the original surface, helping to reduce the disruption of replacement.

You can customise the finish too, choosing from 22 granite colour blends, three flake coverage levels (light, medium or full), a smooth or subtly textured finish, and matt, satin or high gloss sheen levels.

One of our recent worktop transformations completed in Winsford 🤍

The original laminate worktops were looking tired and dated, so they were refinished in Nordic. A timeless off-white with subtle grey, black and pearl flecks that gives a lovely stone-effect finish.

We really love how much brighter the kitchen feels now, while still complementing the existing dark cabinetry.

A simple change that has completely lifted the space 🤍

We recently finished this tiled floor using our Spray Granite system, in the colour Titan.

The original tiles were cracked and looking a little tired, but rather than replacing them, they were given a completely new lease of life.

Titan is a beautiful light grey with black, grey and white flecks running throughout, creating a natural stone-effect finish.

I think it’s made such a difference to the room, and all whilst keeping the original floor 🩶

Good morning, and a happy Monday 🙂

It’s the start of another week, and we’re back with one of our lovely clients, but this time we’re transforming the floor.

After previously hand-painting their kitchen cabinets, we’re now applying our Spray Granite system to the existing ceramic tiles.

No ripping out.
No mess.
No replacing tiles.

We can’t wait to show you the transformation over the next few days 👨🏻‍🎨
