The sun arrived this morning looking thoroughly confident in itself.
No hesitation, no drifting grey skies pretending to brighten later on, just straight over the horizon and into the gardens as though summer had finally decided to start taking things seriously.
Even the air felt different. Warm already, soft around the edges, carrying that early scent of grass, blossom and sun on timber that only seems to appear around this time of year.
And for once, the local wildlife appear temporarily satisfied.
No overnight excavations from the badger, no suspicious rustling beyond the hedge, no owls conducting midnight debates outside the bedroom window. Just a quiet start to the day and the feeling that everything had settled down slightly.
Those mornings are worth appreciating when they arrive.
The workshop doors will be open today, a mug of tea nearby as always, and my head still full of ideas for what comes next. I enjoy this stage perhaps more than I should. Bits of timber laid out, sketches appearing, possibilities still slightly undefined.
Once you start cutting wood, the decisions become real very quickly.
For now though, it’s enough just to enjoy the warmth returning and the feeling of another good day beginning properly.
