Tuesday morning and I think the entire country melted overnight.

Barely slept. The bedroom felt like the inside of a parked car and even at dawn the air outside already had that heavy, strange heat to it. Got the dog out early before the pavements turned volcanic. She huffed her way around a much shorter walk before giving me the look that basically said, “absolutely not.”

Thirty four degrees forecast. In May. England has officially become confusing.

There’s something oddly comforting about the workshop during weather like this though. Fans humming away. Timber slowly warming in the sunlight. Tea going cold far too quickly. Quietly making things while the world outside complains about the temperature every five minutes.

Episode 21 of the resin guitar series is now live too. The retrospective episode. Less about the finished guitar, more about everything the project quietly taught me along the way.

Funny really. The mistakes often end up teaching more than the successes ever do.

You can watch it here if you fancy escaping into the workshop for a little while today:

And if anyone needs me later, I’ll be somewhere near a fan pretending sanding counts as a cooling strategy.

Monday morning and the workshop already feels like southern Europe.

Windows open. Fan rattling away in the corner. Dog stretched across the floorboards like she’s been personally wronged by the concept of heat. Apparently we might hit 33 degrees today. In May. England has completely lost the plot.

I uploaded Episode 21 of the resin guitar build series this morning. Not another build video this time. More of a quiet sit down afterwards, looking back at what the whole project actually taught me.

Funny really. You start out thinking you’re making an object, then somewhere along the line it turns into lessons about patience, mistakes, problem solving, confidence, and occasionally standing silently in the workshop wondering why resin has escaped onto the floor again.

The guitar nearly defeated me more than once. Which probably made finishing it matter more.

If you’ve followed the series, thank you. Genuinely. It still feels slightly surreal that an idea scribbled down months ago became something real sitting in the workshop beside me.

The epilogue is here if you fancy escaping the heat for twenty minutes with a coffee and some workshop reflections:

And if the weather gets too unbearable later, I’ll probably be hiding in the workshop pretending sanding counts as air conditioning.

The dog struggled with the heat overnight.

Not dramatic suffering, more constant repositioning and heavy sighing as though the entire weather system had personally inconvenienced her. Eventually we both gave up pretending we were asleep, so the day started early with a cold shower and a walk out while the air still held a bit of freshness.

Worth it though.

There’s something rather lovely about these first properly warm mornings of the year. The light arrives differently, the fields feel softer somehow, and even the birds sound less argumentative about life.

Back now with a brew, doors and windows wide open and absolutely no intention of stepping into the workshop today. In fact the workshop is staying shut until Tuesday. The tools can rest where they are for a few days while I spend some proper time outdoors enjoying the first warm embrace of summer before we all inevitably start complaining it’s too hot in a few days.

Funny creatures, aren’t we?

And Monday brings Episode 21, the lessons learned edition after the guitar build finally reached the end of its long winding journey. Looking forward to sharing that one.

For now though, the pace slows down a little.

The sun arrived this morning looking thoroughly confident in itself.

No hesitation, no drifting grey skies pretending to brighten later on, just straight over the horizon and into the gardens as though summer had finally decided to start taking things seriously.

Even the air felt different. Warm already, soft around the edges, carrying that early scent of grass, blossom and sun on timber that only seems to appear around this time of year.

And for once, the local wildlife appear temporarily satisfied.

No overnight excavations from the badger, no suspicious rustling beyond the hedge, no owls conducting midnight debates outside the bedroom window. Just a quiet start to the day and the feeling that everything had settled down slightly.

Those mornings are worth appreciating when they arrive.

The workshop doors will be open today, a mug of tea nearby as always, and my head still full of ideas for what comes next. I enjoy this stage perhaps more than I should. Bits of timber laid out, sketches appearing, possibilities still slightly undefined.

Once you start cutting wood, the decisions become real very quickly.

For now though, it’s enough just to enjoy the warmth returning and the feeling of another good day beginning properly.
