Why does your consumer unit need testing?

Your consumer unit contains protective devices designed to help keep you and your electrical installation safe when a fault occurs.
But simply having those devices fitted doesn't tell us whether everything is operating as it should.

Electrical testing allows an electrician to check the installation and verify the operation of protective devices, including RCDs where fitted.

It's a bit like other safety equipment in the home. You hope it never has to protect you from a fault, but you want to know it's working properly if it does.
