A newly built Operations (Ops) Room has been commissioned by the Director Supply and Transport, Colonel (Col) Fusheini Abdulai Natogma for the Defence Mechanical Transport (DEF MT) Battalion on Thursday, 19 January, 2023 at its Headquarters in Burma Camp.

Col Fusheini Abdulai Natogma, who was the Guest of Honour, commended the Commanding Officer (CO) of the Unit, Lieutenant Colonel (Lt Col) Aaron Amadu Baba and personnel of the Unit for putting up the structure to enhance operations. He urged them to maintain the facility at all times to ensure its durability.

Lt Col Aaron Amadu Baba in his remarks extolled the importance of having an operational room since it serves as the nerve center of every unit. He revealed that the unit since its establishment in 1961 have not had an operations room hence the establishment of the edifice.

The facility was named after the Late Colonel (Col) EL Opoku, a onetime Senior Transporter of the Unit.

The final planning event for Exercise (Ex) Flintlock 2023 was held from Monday 9 to Friday 13 January, 2023 at the Alisa Hotel in Accra. Ex Flintlock is the United States (US) Africa Commands (AFRICOM) premier and largest annual special operations exercise which is held across the Sahel region of the continent. The Exercise is designed to strengthen the ability of key partner nations and the region to counter violent extremism, collaborate across borders, and provide security for their people.

Over the years, the Exercise has sought to foster partnerships between African, US, and international forces and law enforcement agencies, increasing their ability to work together during multinational operations and in response to crises.

In his opening remarks as the Guest of Honour, the Commander Army Special Operations Brigade (ASOB), Brigadier General (Brig Gen) Berima Brako Owusu said that the Exercise would develop an inter operations campaign in support of special operations as well as coordinate the formation and deployment of a combined joint task force ready and able to conduct Command and Control of Special Operations Forces. He noted that recent events within the Sahel region had made it more imperative for all nations to ensure the peace and security of their citizens. He disclosed that Ghana and La Cote D' Ivoire would co-host the main exercise in March of this year.
