The ACRE Project, Celbridge A Community Rethinking its Enviroronment. Building eco-friendly gardens and a space for the community to gather.

ACRE stands for A Community Rethinking its Environment. The project began in 2008 with the suggestion of an eco-friendly community garden centre and programme for the development and welfare of people of the area, especially young people with learning and social disadvantage. This was based on experiences with the Resource Department in Salesian College, Celbridge, and has been heightened by more

recent interaction with various local community groups. Phase One of the Project is complete and has provided:
External beds for growing vegetables, flowers and fruit crops. Resource building No. 1 with social and training and other facilities. Site services, including rainwater harvesting and geothermal exchange. Phase Two is also complete and includes the provision of a second building, poly-tunnels, wind turbine, security fencing,and sensory garden landscaping. The Project's main objectives include making a positive contribution to the local community, creating a space for the community to meet and engage with the environment and promoting the community and social development of our area.

Are you a local artist? We’d love to have you at our first plein air outdoor painting event at the ACRE Project, Saturday 5th of September between 1pm and 5pm

This is a bring your own art supplies event: sketchbooks, easels, paints etc. - the ACRE lawns are yours to enjoy with your fellow artists of the community

This is a free event but attendees can bring a small cash donation towards tea, coffee and snacks for the afternoon.

Places are very limited and booking is essential so we ask you book your place early.

Find the ACRE project next to Salesian college on the Maynooth rd, Celbridge.

These are gorgeous huge bags of organic vegetables grown by Nathan and the dedicated crew at Kyrie farms - a wonderful way to support the truly incredible healing work they’re bring about there for mental health recovery 💚

ACRE Artist in Residence call out - deadline Thursday 16th July (tomorrow) at 12pm.

The ACRE Project and Kildare County Council Arts Service Arts in Co Kildare Artist in Residence programme, based in The ACRE Project, Celbridge, County Kildare. Professional artists, socially engaged artists and/or collectives practicing in any art form are encouraged to apply for a 10-month residency (September 2026 – June 2027). The Artist in Residence Bursary Award will support and resource an artist to develop their professional practice and/or develop a specific artistic project, alongside a programme of public-facing workshops or events to engage communities from the local area.
