Sumatra Villa | Hospitality | DPDebut

📍Inspired by Geoffrey Bawa’s philosophy of blurring the lines between built and natural environments, this villa transforms a once-thriving nursery into an immersive hospitality experience for intimate outdoor weddings. The architectural language embraces clean lines, earthy textures, and a restrained palette, allowing the lush surroundings to take center stage.

📍Locally sourced materials like IPS, rubble, rattan, and bamboo weave sustainability into every corner—most strikingly in the hand-crafted thatch ceiling, a nod to Balinese villas.

📍Inside, light-filled living and dining spaces flow effortlessly into the landscape, while the bedrooms invite calm with skylit greens and waterbody views. Every detail reflects a commitment to local craftsmanship, quiet luxury, and a deeper connection to nature.

Project Shibui | Residential Interior | DPDebut

Inspired by the Japanese philosophy of “shibui”—beauty in subtlety—this home embodies simplicity, balance, and quiet elegance.

📍 Image 2 : A double-height foyer welcomes you with vertical wooden louvers that play with light and shadow. Behind them, a textured cement staircase adds depth and contrast.

📍 Image 3 : The formal living room connects seamlessly with the outdoors. A wooden arched partition subtly separates the dining area, blending openness with intimacy.

📍 Image 4 : The dining space embraces Japandi minimalism with a raw IPS backdrop, rattan chairs, and clean Scandinavian lines. The kitchen lies conveniently adjacent.

📍 Image 5 : A mix of cement, light and dark woods, and linens brings warmth and texture for the master bedroom. Low-profile furniture enhances spaciousness while grounding the design.

📍 Image 6: The upper terrace features a Mangalore-tiled roof wrapped in bamboo matting to combat heat. With a built-in bar, mist fans, and lush greenery, it’s the perfect hosting nook.

We’ve been a little quiet here… but only because life’s been very loud behind the scenes.
Swipe through for the full story 👇

2️⃣ Packing Memories — our very first space, where Auburn Studio began 3 years ago as a team of 2. Back then, it was smaller apartments, big dreams, and lessons learned on every project. Since then, we’ve gone on to design 10,000+ sq.ft homes and even large-scale apartment complexes. This little space will always be our foundation 💛

3️⃣ Home Office Hustle — all systems running late into the night on something exciting 👀

4️⃣ New Beginnings — settling into our new office, a space that’s ready to grow with us ✨

5️⃣ First piece Goes Up — because every Auburn space starts with a little soul 🖼

6️⃣ Scaling up— from larger homes to complex developments, we’re scaling our vision and our impact 🚀

We can’t wait to show you more. 💫

Yesterday was the opening of our second project with Geetham!🤗
So thrilled to have designed this 15,000 sq.ft. flagship at Porur, working closely with the sibling duo Abhishek Murali and Akshaya Murali, who brought us on board again after our first collaboration in Anna Nagar.🙌🏻
This one’s bigger, bolder, and filled with layers of nostalgia and warmth — just like Geetham itself.
Grateful to be a small part of their ever-growing story.❤️
More from the space in this post!

We didn’t want the bedrooms to just be restful—they needed to feel thoughtful, expressive, and full of personality.

Image 1 & 2- The master bedroom takes on a more expressive tone—layered with prints, color, and thoughtful details. We had originally planned to use textured paint on the back wall, but as the rest of the home came together, we felt there was an opportunity to try something different. We built a curved ply wall and painted over it, adding a gentle visual rhythm to the room. The headboards introduce a pop of color, tying in with the mix of patterns and giving the space its own distinct character.

Image 3- The kids’ bedroom brings in a softer tone with arched headboards in a warm pink. Behind them, a custom wall painting adds a personal touch—subtle, yet expressive. It’s a space designed to feel light, and easy to grow into.

When we imagined this space for the parents’ bedroom, we knew it had to carry a vintage, traditional vibe.✨We brought in poster beds, paired with floral wallpaper and rattan-fronted wardrobes to keep the palette rooted and familiar. The side tables were custom-made—and interestingly, their design shifted midway once we saw how the space was coming together. It was a small change, but helped the room feel more balanced and complete.😊

This double-height courtyard is hands down one of our favorite spots in the home.🤗 The jaali ceiling lets light pour in, casting ever-changing patterns on the exposed brick wall. We turned an old saree from the client’s collection into art, restored and reupholstered their vintage furniture, and laid down Kota stone with brass inlay to tie it all together.❤️

The dining room wall is the first thing you see when you step into the space, so we knew it had to make a statement. ✨We added arch-shaped niches to give it depth and character, and hand-painted a few to help them stand out. With warm textures, soft light, and a thoughtful material palette, this wall feels like the perfect blend of tradition and contemporary charm. 🤗

Stay tuned—we’ll be sharing how this feature wall came to life!
