The procces is a part of progress each day..
Vault making has been the best teacher of patience, art and trust in the material.. Our skilled masons would come daily and do a few courses, on some days repeat the same course until the result is to our satisfaction and on the other days, they would just wrap up the day’s work and get down the scaffolding only to see the rain undo the entire day’s work in one stroke!! They would brace themselves to start all over again, unflinching, with the single aim of achieving perfection- course by course.

9/12/2025 - The day of learning opportunities and insightful moments. It was an honour to welcome the master of Timbrel vaulting, Ar.Peter Rich sir (.rich.architects ) to our new Timbrel vault project, Chhaya farmstay .ferme , Shoolagiri.
Noticing the resemblance of the structure to Lord Ganesha, he remarked that in future the people would refer to it as “the Ganesha building”.😊

We also had the privilege of meeting great architects like Ar.Brijesh sir( ), Ar.Jaykrishnan sir( ) and team..

I am grateful to Ar. Fawaz sir( ), Ar. Archana mam( ), Ar. Senthil Kumar Doss(.in ), Ar. Periyasamy ( ), Mr. Shihab sir( ),Mr. Baiju sir( )for their steady support and guidance.

Work in progress pictures of Chaaya Farmstay at Shoolagiri. The mason - Subramani Anna and Helper - Tinku Da, have spent countless hours placing each tile with great care and precision, under the able guidance of the site engineer- Mr. Santhamoorti( , ), turning this design into reality. Special thanks to Ar Periyasamy( , .in )for all the technical help with the detailed drawings of each frame. These pictures are of the roof of our first timbrel vault structure which wraps itself over a bedroom and its attached toilet. Timbrel vaults or Catalan vaults are an ancient construction technique built by placing multiple layers of terracotta tiles(or bricks) with fast setting mortar without any additional steel reinforcements. These masonry vaults have a good strength in compression. They can be constructed with remarkable thinness (as low as 5cm) and very minimal formwork.

Snaps of the CSEB compound wall constructed at the Siva Adhishtanam temple in Chidambaram. This simple wall affords shaded seating spaces that are suitable for meditation. It is dotted with jali work resembling bilva leaves that are dear to Siva and can be illuminated with lamps on special occasions.
