What if a lakefront could do more than just look beautiful?

What if it could restore ecosystems, celebrate heritage, and strengthen communities at the same time?

That became the starting point for our Gomti Lakefront proposal. An ecological corridor for flora and fauna. A cultural landscape rooted in faith and tradition. A heritage destination that keeps local stories alive.

Cities grow vertically, but the spaces beneath often remain untouched & forgotten.

We imagined something else for the Delhi flyovers, a green blue corridor filled with planting, movement, interaction, and breathing pockets within the city fabric. An urban void turned into a living ecosystem.

Under every flyover, there’s a space the city forgets.
Not designed, not claimed, just leftover.

Over time it becomes fragmented broken walkways, unsafe edges, spaces people move through but never belong to.

This concept starts exactly there. Instead of treating it as residual, it treats it as potential. Columns become vertical landscapes. The median becomes a micro-ecosystem. Movement is reorganised not just for vehicles, but for people.

Most people think landscape design means “adding plants.”

It’s really about fixing how cities behave.
That shaded stretch? It changes how long you’re willing to walk. That seating edge? It turns passing through into staying back. That green layer on a structure? It’s not just pretty. it cools, filters, and supports life you don’t even notice. Good landscape design is low-key like that.

We approached this space as a sequence, not a container.
The starting point wasn’t equipment. It was movement. How does one enter, transition, recover, and repeat?

The arches became spatial markers, creating rhythm without interruption. Materiality was kept restrained textured plaster, muted tones. So the user remains the most dynamic element in the room.

Nothing here was “final” when it started. The sketch was loose. The palette kept changing. The materials didn’t agree with each other at first. Too heavy. Too flat. Too loud. Too safe.

So we kept adjusting, layering, removing, testing combinations that almost worked… until they actually did.

An aviation park is often experienced in motion, people walking through, conversations passing by.

The intention was to create forms that respond to the openness of the site, complement the greenscape, and give people visual moments to engage with.

Forms inspired by movement, openness, and connection, designed to feel like they belong to the space rather than interrupt it.
