The Citizen’s Forum for Disaster Reduction, known as Purvi Delhi Aapda Prehari (PDAP) was initiated by Seeds India in October, 2010, when the local citizens, civil society and others came together to recognize the importance of being prepared for any disaster in East Delhi. East Delhi is a multi-hazard prone area, exposed to floods, earthquakes, fires, old constructions, mushrooming of new buildin
gs, dilapidated buildings etc. The idea was to develop a citizen’s forum for coordinated action at the district level. They include retired government & bank persons, RWA's, Market Associations, CBO's and civil society organisation etc. PDAP has started to evolve as a district level DRR coordination body, right now focussing on Gandhi Nagar, Mayur Vihar and Preeti Vihar divisions of East District Delhi. The core objectives of PDAP are to:
Increase public awareness to understand risk, vulnerability and disaster reduction globally;
Obtain commitment from public authorities to implement disaster reduction policies and actions;
Stimulate interdisciplinary and inter-sectoral partnerships, including the expansion of risk reduction networks;
Improve scientific knowledge about disaster reduction.
