🧱 Sand Testing in Construction Work

Quality sand is essential for strong and durable construction. Before using sand in concrete, mortar, plastering, or other construction activities, proper testing helps check its quality and suitability.

🔍 Common Sand Tests:
• Sieve Analysis – checks particle size and grading
• Silt Content Test – measures unwanted fine particles
• Moisture Content Test – determines water present in sand
• Bulking of Sand Test – checks volume increase due to moisture
• Specific Gravity Test – determines the relative density of sand

Safe Lapping Zones: Lapping should occur only in the middle section of the column (Zone B), which accounts for the central half of the total height. Avoid lapping at the top and bottom L/4 sections, as these are high-stress areas (plastic hinge zones) where bending moments are at their maximum. Staggered Laps: Never overlap all column bars at the same height or section, as this creates a critical weak point.
