Directorate Electrical Safety has the following main functions:
To check the occurrence of accidents and report under section - 161 of the Electricity Act, 2003. To conduct initial and periodic inspections of electrical installations under Rule - 45 of Indian Electricity Rules, 1956. To issue contractor license, supervisor certificate and wireman permit and their renewals for electricity related

works under the rules of the - 45 of Indian Electricity Rules, 1956. To conduct examinations for issuance of supervisor certificate and electrical wireman permit. To examine controversial Energy Meters under U.P. Distribution Code, 2005. To inspect electrical installations at fairs, exhibitions and public or VIP programs.
