This project was developed as a competition entry, where my approach as a landscape architect focused on community engagement through design.

The idea was to create multi-tiered open spaces and strong spatial connectivity—landscapes that encourage interaction, shared experiences, and everyday encounters. These open spaces foster community building, while interconnected terraces and walkways bring a sense of belonging and continuity.

In a country like ours, where every festival celebrates coming together and sharing, can our site plans reflect the same spirit?
Can we reimagine urban morphology through multi-tiered streetscapes and built forms?
Can architecture and landscape nurture indigenous value systems—togetherness, unity in diversity, and collective living—as the foundation of design?

With this thought, we at DNM Geodesigns wish you a very Happy Makar Sankranti 🌞🪁

Wrapping up the week with a landscape BOQ.

BOQs are often prepared behind the scenes, but they play a critical role in how landscapes are executed on site. They help translate drawings into measurable scope, align expectations, and reduce ambiguity during construction.

Completing BOQs alongside working drawings allows us to:
• Control costs early
• Avoid assumptions on site
• Support smoother coordination between teams

A good weekend is one where design intent is clearly quantified.

Planter Bed Detailing – What Usually Goes Wrong?
Let’s Talk Podium Landscapes
📐 Today, we’re sharing detail drawings from two different planter bed projects—both designed for podium slabs, both successful, but each with a unique approach. One features a French drain beneath the planter (done for a project in Mumbai’s monsoon climate), while the other relies on well-planned subsurface catch basins and drainage, perfect for a drier region.
The first planter sandwiches stone aggregates between geotextile filter fabrics, promoting effective drainage. In the second, potting media is spread directly over a drain cell wrapped with geotextile. What’s interesting: both methods work, but for different reasons! Proper stormwater drainage planning is key—every region needs its own solution.
• Which detail do you think is more robust?
• Have you faced challenges with planter bed drainage?
• What solutions worked best in your projects?
Poll: “Which planter bed detail do you trust more for podium landscapes?”
CTA: Save this if you’re detailing podium landscapes. Share your experiences in the comments and help us build a learning space for landscape professionals!

Early-stage planting and circulation study using digital sketching.
This layer helps us explore tree canopies, spatial rhythm, pedestrian movement, and planting density before fixing levels and details in CAD.

By sketching at this stage, we’re able to:
• Test canopy overlaps and clearances
• Understand flow between open and shaded zones
• Balance softscape density with usable movement space
• Anticipate long-term maintenance and growth patterns

Design decisions made early save time, cost, and corrections later.

🏊‍♂️ Luxurious Heated Pool Enclosure | Acton, Massachusetts 🇺🇸

Designing comfort through all seasons ✨
Set amidst the cold climate of Massachusetts, this heated pool enclosure was envisioned as a seamless extension of a private villa — blending luxury, wellness, and engineering precision.

From state-of-the-art heating systems to MEP-integrated detailing, every element was crafted for year-round usability and comfort. The enclosure allows a smooth transition between indoors and outdoors, making it the perfect retreat — even in winter. ❄️🔥

Proud to share a glimpse of the construction phase for this bespoke project — where design, technology, and craftsmanship come together beautifully.

Some memories stay close to the heart 🌿✨
This beautiful memento from my students at the Part-time Masters of Landscape Architecture, LSR School of Architecture takes me back to when I was part of their studio team. As a fresh graduate, those days were an extension of my own learning — shaping my understanding of landscape design and strengthening the values of environmental consciousness that CEPT instilled in us. 🌱

Pinned up in my office, it stands as a constant reminder to celebrate the process of design and the joy of passing on knowledge. It is, truly, the perfect reflection of why I am so grateful to be a teacher.

Wishing everyone a Happy Teachers’ Day! 💚
And to all my students — do tag yourselves if you remember this memory! 🌿

🌿✨ Happy Ganesh Chaturthi ✨🌿

In Himalayan blooms where divinity sways,
Little Ganesha arrives to bless our days.
With Shiva and Parvati, joy takes birth,
Ganesh Chaturthi brings love and mirth. 🪔🌸

Lord, bless us to see Your presence in every landscape we touch.
Seeking Your guidance to grow under the shade of Your knowledge and wisdom. 🙏

A Sonnet to Our Green Guardians.

In Shravan’s heart, when monsoon’s voice is deep
And silver rains through emerald branches fall,
Two sentinels their silent vigil keep.

These steadfast guards, our shelter and our wall,
Through thirty-five years they’ve watched our gate.

Since father’s hand first claimed this humble ground.

Through storms and suns in patience they would wait
And weave cool shade where peace and work are found.

This Raksha Bandhan, bonds of love we weave
Not only ‘mongst the hearts of kin we know,
But with these roots whose gifts we still receive,
Whose leafy arms have braved both flood and snow.

O pillars green, our thanks today we send
True protectors, guides and our oldest friend.

The garden reminds us: nothing truly ends - it just transforms.
