When talking to magazine, our founder and principal architect discussed the importance of the reserved potential of rarity in the age of abundance in which we are currently living.

As a collective at AKDG Studio, our continued focus is to strive for an end product that’s truly crafted. We leverage the luxury of time to add layers of finesse and creativity to our work. We appreciate Namaste.ai magazine for understanding this process and putting it into the right context.

An absolutely wonderful evening at the Condé Nast office for the AD x Havells – Switch On India – Design Salon.

A meaningful discussion on the evolving landscape of design, luxury and contemporary living, surrounded by some of the most inspiring minds from the industry. It was a pleasure sharing perspectives and engaging in such insightful conversations.

Thank you to the entire AD team for curating such a beautifully hosted evening. Special thanks to Mrinalini Gadhiok, Kaetki Bhatia, Sandeep Lodha and everyone involved for bringing together such an intimate and thoughtful gathering.

Lovely conversations, inspiring people and a memorable evening in Mumbai.

When designing an art-enthusiast couple’s studio apartment on a classic Haussmannian boulevard in central Paris, the one feature we were collectively certain of was the sunroof! A west-facing cut-out on a warm summer day fills the top floor with breezy, diffused sunlight.

A consistent drama unfolds through two types of space-defining geometries: the fluid, bold lines of the rug counteracting the rigid, subtle lines of the dressers and console.

At AKDG, our pursuit of learning extends far beyond our sites and desks. Through explorations like this, we learn how to tackle the changes in geographical context, materiality or climatic familiarity.

The concept of the walk-in wardrobe at Oaklane Villa stems from the client’s passion for fashion. A grand, gala-like sensibility is exuded through the double-heighted space with two-tiered wardrobes, tactfully stacked to maximise storage. To add an element of sophistication, the wardrobe carries a visual vocabulary carried through beige shutters and brown-tinted glass: an infallible combination!

The spaces are illuminated by strategic daylight from a skylight with stained-glass motifs that diffuse a subtle glow.

The wardrobe is carved to feel both intimate and splendid, using the fluidity of volumes and a play of textures.

As a collective, we have always abided by the ideal that a strong visual vocabulary that stands the test of time is the only way to gauge the success of a project.

For Oaklane Villa, a multigenerational residence in Delhi, this philosophy became a driving principle. While it was given a contemporary envelope through technologically sophisticated systems, its heart remains timelessly classical. The elegance comes from a well-worked-out balance of textural play with colours and light.

Thanking for understanding this project in a deeper sense through its details.

For the dining space in Oaklane Villa, the accent features chart out visual cues that capture the gaze of anyone who enters.
The chandeliers arrest our attention, which is eventually redirected to the dramatic, ornate mirror that sits in stark tonal contrast to the subtle wainscoting beneath it.

A full expanse of uninterrupted glass walls opens up the space during the day and transforms into a radiant amber light box, diffusing a mellow glow by evening.

For this Ahmedabad residence, donning a timeless neoclassical vocabulary, symmetry, craftsmanship, and luminosity in each nook, cranny, and corner set the operative tone.

What immediately strikes upon entering is the uninterrupted flow of veined marble wainscoting. The mural wallpaper then takes over, and the powder room unfolds the story of the forest, enveloping the space cohesively.

Juhani Pallasmaa famously said that the door handle is the handshake of the building. We believe the same is true for our entryways and vestibules.

Nodal fountains have graced iconic architectural works for centuries; from the water features of the Charbagh at the Taj Mahal to the Fountain of Apollo at the Palace of Versailles.

Here, encircling a sculptural chrome silhouette, is one such entryway leading into the porch of this serene residence in Ahmedabad.

The marble drives the space, laid out to follow its natural movement rather than interrupt it.
Paneling remains disciplined, allowing the material to read clearly.
A sunken tub defines the centre, creating a subtle shift in level and experience.
Ceiling layers and concealed lighting soften the volume without excess.
The palette stays controlled, resolved through proportion, alignment, and restraint.

When used to their full potential, alleyways allow a unique opportunity to bring in an element of surprise without disrupting the unique requirements of the two spaces it connects.

Here, used in an exaggerated sinuous curve, our idea was to invite a sense of spatial unfolding in a labyrinthine way. A continuous wooden panelling packages the space to make it an independently functional structure.

This residence, conceptualised in Palm Jumeirah, takes forward our ongoing series of explorations of materiality, form articulation and narrativising the spaces.
