Thiru.Ravindran , General Manager ,SIDBI (Small Industrial Development Bank of India) along with Thiru.Prabhakaran, BDM, SIDBI and Dharani Muralidharan, CEO, READS NGO have inaugurated concept of “Fusion is Fashion” in cross training Kalamkari art from the Kalamkari artisans of Kalahasthi training programme to the handloom weavers of Navasaarigai in Navasaarigai CFC Devikapuram.
Concept: Why not introduce cross-training initiatives among artisans, similar to practices in the IT industry? India boasts a wealth of diverse arts and skilled artisans spread across the country. However, the population of artisans has been steadily declining as the younger generation hesitates to take up these traditional crafts. To safeguard and promote these arts, SIDBI, in collaboration with READS, has taken a modest yet impactful step. They are facilitating cross-training in Kalamkari art, originating from Kalahasthi, Andhra Pradesh, for handloom weavers in Arani, Tamil Nadu. This endeavor ensures the preservation and continued pursuit of this highly skilled art form. The Aim is to cross train 90 handloom weavers in the tenure of 3 months.
