Younger generations in Sardinia now celebrate , but we do have our very own traditions for the day of the dead. My favorite is Su Prugadoriu, celebrated in , a small mountain town in the region. The festival lasts 3 days and involves eating traditional foods like culurgiones, live music (from traditional Sardinian instruments to jazz bands roaming the streets), chestnuts, museums and a joyful atmosphere. If you are visiting Sardinia in the fall, add it to your itinerary!

It was a challenging hike but I loved every minute of it! Here are a few things to know if you want to hike to Cala Biriala:
- the hike is roughly 8 km (around 5 miles)
- there’s a 380 meters elevation gain (that’s almost 1250)
- it’ll take you 2.5 hours to get to the beach and roughly 2 to walk back up (it took me 1.5 but I’m a uphill hiker)
- it’s challenging: the terrain is unforgiving. This is a hike for expert hikers only. There are some VERY EXPOSED bits, where you have to scramble down (or up) wooden or metal ladders, only holding onto a cable.
- you need hiking shoes. I saw people in plain trainers and wanted to SCREAM. That’s an accident waiting to happen!
- bring 2 liters of water minimum.
