Introducing our vision for:
Mussi-Lombardi-Femiano Pool / Viareggio / 2025-ongoing
In spring 2025 we were asked to develop a vision for the second life of the Mussi-Lombardi-Femiano public in Viareggio.
Opened on July 14th, 1974, the facility had long been a landmark for aquatic sports in the city before being abandoned and left unused for years.
What initially appeared to be a simple renovation quickly unfolded into a far more complex transformation.
Commissioned by a private owner, the brief evolved into a full upgrade: seismic safety, energy performance, environmental standards, and a complete architectural renewal of the existing structure.
The project is driven by a clear spatial strategy. A system of blue geometries is inserted into the existing framework, reshaping circulation, absorbing technical systems, and reprogramming light and space.
The pool is split into two worlds: a compressed, saturated blue entrance space, and a main swimming hall of light, white, floating volume suspended over a deep blue water field.
The pillars supporting the gallery become sculptural elements, recalling the dynamism and plasticity of a diver suspended in motion.
