Winter is coming. If your house isn’t properly insulated you are literally allowing money to float away. The best form of insulation in our climate is Closed Cell Spray Polyurethane Foam (SPF). SPF has an R-value of 6+ per inch versus 3.5 for fiberglass. Air infiltration accounts for 40% of the energy loss in most hoses. SPF adheres to and seals gaps between the studs and sheathing that it is sprayed against eliminating air infiltration and reducing moisture infiltration. This allows SPF to block mold and eliminate heat loss due to air exchange. SPF also increases the rigidity of structures in which it is used, increasing the wind load and impact resistance making your home better able to stand up to heavy storms.

If you don’t have the luxury of open walls to apply SPF then blown fiberglass insulation can still be added through small easily patched holes cut into each bay in the wall. It is a relatively quick project (though know that any rooms that are insulated will need to be painted afterwards) and can quickly pay for itself.
