🐧 THE BIG PUFFIN COMEBACK 🐧
Our iconic Willow Puffins are disappearing for a full makeover… but don’t worry - they’re coming back!
Just like real Puffins, who disappear from our shores at this time of year to moult their flight feathers out at sea, our Willow Puffins are about to disappear for a few weeks too.
Next week, they’ll be tucked away behind a protective scaffold while they get some much-needed TLC - before making their BIG comeback with brand-new plumage!
Over the past three years, winter storms have taken their toll on the willow, while some cheeky local birds have even helped themselves to strands to build their nests. 🪹
Blacksmith Nathan Twomey, will firstly prepare the metal endoskeleton, then artists Michelle Cain and Alcindo Pinto will carefully restore our much-loved Willow Puffins. Whilst all this intricate work takes place, artist James Carter will transform the protective scaffold into something spectacular this summer.
🎨 And we want you to be part of it!
Whilst the Puffins are having their makeover, we’ll be inviting the community to join James at a series of workshops, helping us create a giant mural celebrating Jersey’s precious seabirds and wildlife - right here on the Plémont headland.
Keep your eyes peeled for workshop dates and details coming soon!
With special thanks to Cazenove Capital and Jubilee Scaffolding Co for their support, and to everyone who has already shared their love for our Puffins so far.
Do you want to be part of the comeback? Get in touch and show your love for our Willow Puffins 💜
