Once the design is done and approvals are sought-after, the construction works can kick off. Here, the project comes to life, and we try to deal with design issues comprehensively on paper so that building your dream is a breeze.
We are currently conducting construction supervision of a modern townhouse on 3 levels in Runda. Formwork for the first floor is ongoing, and its exciting to see it come together.

Shelter has been a basic need for humans since the days of old.
If you are familiar with Maslow then you might have heard or read of the Maslow's Hierarchy of needs. We believe that shelter has the ability to satisfy all the 5 facets mentioned by Maslow.

The forms of shelter come in many shapes and sizes, from single dwelling to multi dwelling structures. There is great pressure on land as the years go by with many developers resulting to high-rise apartment buildings to achieve worthwhile returns on their investments.

We are glad to have been engaged with one such developer to work on a 5 storey Flat within the growing town of Ongata Rongai. The building enjoys good day lighting and impressive views of Ngong Hills especially from the terrace once the building is complete.

It is important for a developer/client to retain an architect beyond the design stage and into construction supervision.
An architect who has been involved in the design stage will have a deeper understanding of the project's vision and design intent. This ensures continuity and consistency throughout the project, from the design phase through to construction, resulting in a cohesive, well-executed final product.
More often than not, it results in a successful project that is built on time, on budget, and to a high standard of quality. By leveraging the architect's expertise in problem-solving, quality control, cost control, and time control, the developer/client can ensure that the project meets their needs and aspirations.

Advantages include
Increased density: Highrise buildings allow for a higher population density in urban areas, making efficient use of limited land.
Reduced urban sprawl: By building upward, rather than outward, highrise buildings help to reduce/delay urban sprawl and preserve natural areas.
Economic benefits: Highrise buildings can generate significant economic benefits, such as increased property values and tax revenues (Rates)
Urban revitalization: High-rise buildings can help revitalize urban areas by bringing in more residents and businesses, which can lead to the development of new shops, restaurants, and other services. We are in the people business after all.

We worked on a proposed apartment building design on a 50ft by 80ft plot for a client in Ishiara, a growing town in Embu County. (See Layout Attached)
The need was to put up a development that can run as a residential or could be let out for accommodation and compete with the hotels around (BNB), hence the preference of 1br and bedsitter units.

Hot climatic conditions can affect the design and construction of buildings in a variety of ways. Buildings in hot climates need to be designed to keep the interior cool and comfortable, which can be achieved through passive cooling strategies such as proper orientation, shading, ventilation and adequate headroom among others, as well as active cooling systems such as air conditioning.

Additionally, building materials and technologies that are well-suited to hot climates need to be used, such as those that have high thermal mass and reflectivity, and can withstand high temperatures and humidity.

We worked on a proposed residential development a few kilometers from Namanga in Kajiado County. Our attempt at providing a solution that caters to the spatial needs and pays attention to the site conditions is visible from the shared 3d impressions.
The introduction of a water feature and a swimming pool ensures the users maintain their cool one way or another. 😅

Building a house on a slope can have several advantages.
One is that it can offer views that would not be possible on a flat lot. Additionally, it can also provide better drainage and natural ventilation.
Building a house on a slope can also create the opportunity for a split-level or multi-level design, which can add visual interest and functional space to the home.
In addition, a sloped lot often allows for a walk-out basement, which can be converted into additional living space.

When working on the design shared here, while taking account of the unique characteristics of the site, we were able to design the building to take advantage of the natural landscape and potentially create an aesthetically pleasing design.
The result is a proposed mansion with 2 levels at the upper side & 3 Levels visible from the lower side of the plot. (See Sketch)

One of the basic needs for us as humam beings is shelter. This however comes in many shapes and forms and is determined by a myriad of factors.

We endeavour to provide guidance to every client we work with on how to fulfil this need at different levels through Architectural services. For many Kenyans, owning a home ranks closer to self actualisation.

Our client was desirous of building a home that would serve his family wholsomely on a plot in Utawala.
Displayed here is a side view of the town house with 3 levels, sitting on a 40x80ft corner plot. The next image is an artistic impression resembling an oil painting.

As is our duty, we will guide the client from inception, provide construction supervision and ensure the dream has been achieved.

Residential projects are great opportunities to engage with the client and learn new things.
By the end of the design phase the Client and the Architect are well acquainted and have created a working relationship.

We share the images of a Villa in Kilifi County by the Indian Ocean that we have been working on for a while.
Here the client was looking for a Modern feel with clean lines and symmetry as a guiding principle.
After a good number of iterations on the design the client was happy with the result.
Work on site is ongoing and we are eager to see this through to completion.
