HERE'S A SAFETY LESSON EVERY SURVEYOR AND SITE WORKER SHOULD REMEMBER:
PPE IS IMPORTANT — BUT PPE ALONE DOESN'T MAKE A SITE SAFE.
Imagine you're working next to:Moving machinery,Traffic ,An excavation, Overhead work, Electrical hazards,High-noise equipment
Putting on a helmet and reflective jacket is important.
But the next question should be:
“WHAT IS THE HAZARD, AND HOW DO WE CONTROL IT?”
Before starting work, take a moment to look around.
1. IDENTIFY THE HAZARD.
What could hurt you or someone else?

2. CONTROL THE AREA.
Can the hazard be removed, isolated or clearly marked?

3. KEEP A SAFE POSITION.
Don't place yourself unnecessarily close to moving machinery, traffic, excavations or other hazards.

4. WEAR THE RIGHT PPE.
Depending on the work and risk.

5. FOLLOW THE SITE PROCEDURES
Know where you're working, what is happening around you and who is responsible for controlling the work area.
