SINGLE POLE MCB
VS
2 POLE MAIN SWITCH

A Single Pole MCB must never be used as a Main Switch because it disconnects only the phase; the neutral remains live, creating a serious electric shock risk during maintenance.

Iron box

Use only the correct temperature for each type of fabric

Separate clothes by type and iron continuously

Make sure the thermostat is working properly

Iron
Keep the iron sole plate clean

Do not use steam unnecessarily
ആവശ്യമില്ലാതെ steam ഉപയോഗിക്കരുത്

6️⃣ Iron ஐ அடிக்கடி ON / OFF செய்ய வேண்டாம்

Iron නිතර ON / OFF කිරීමෙන් වළකින්න
Avoid frequent switching ON and OFF of the iron
Iron ഇടയ്ക്കിടെ ON / OFF ചെയ്യുന്നത് ഒഴിവാക്കുക

Switch OFF the iron and use residual heat for last clothes

Loose socket
Do not use loose sockets or thin wires

Choose an iron box with the correct wattage

By following these methods, you can save 25–35% electricity

If the cotton insulation is damaged

1. *Stop using the iron*: Unplug it
immediately.
2. *Don't touch*: Avoid touching the
damaged area to prevent electrical
shock.
3. *Get it repaired*: Take it to a
professional electrician or the
manufacturer's service center.
4. *Replace if necessary*: If the damage
is extensive, consider replacing the iron.

Rating of your 13 A Socket Outlet

• Rated current = 13 Amps
• Supply voltage (Sri Lanka) = 230 V AC

Maximum safe power:

P = VxI
230x13 = 2990W
approx 3kW

✅ So a 13 A socket is designed for about 3,000 Watt only

Typical Kitchen Appliances (example)

(W)
(A)

kettle
2000 W
8.7 A

cooker
1000 W
4.35 A

1200 W
5.2 A

800 W
3.5 A
———————————————

Overload Condition (Actual Calculation)

Example:

Kettle + Rice cooker plugged into same 13 A socket

Total Power= 2000 + 1000 = 3000W

I=p/v
Current= 3000/230
= 13.04 A
—————————————————

⚠️ Already exceeds the rated 13 A

Now add phone charger / extension:

3000 + 100 = 3100W

# I=P/v
3100w/230v= 13.5A

❌ Overload confirmed

🔥 Plugging heavy loads causes:
• Wire overheating
• Insulation melting
• Internal sparking
• Fire inside wall socket

Safety Recommendation (For Public Awareness)

heavy appliance = one socket
13 A outlet for ovens, heaters
extension cords in kitchens
terminal connections
RCCB + correct MCB sizing

⚡ Household Electrical Hazards – What Every Woman Should Know! ⚡

Many home accidents happen due to small electrical mistakes.
Please be aware of these common household electrical dangers:

1.Overloaded plug points
2.Damaged or loose wires
3.Electrical appliances near water
4.Old or faulty appliances
5.Open sockets – dangerous for children

👉 A small awareness can save lives.
👉 If unsure, call a qualified electrician.

Ground Fault Protection (GFCI/RCD/RCCB) Installation)
• Professional Explanation: Bathrooms are high-risk wet zones where electrical faults can easily lead to electric shock. Installing Ground Fault Circuit Interrupters (GFCIs), (RCCB) or Residual Current Devices (RCDs) ensures that the power supply is automatically cut off within milliseconds if leakage current is detected, preventing potentially fatal shocks.
👉 Best Practice: Test the GFCI monthly to ensure proper operation.
