This past election term we experienced many adverse situations: Unsolicited participation in the US Immigration process, Covid and the near shut down of our local economy, a staged walk out of employees and an unexpected 370% increase in the cost of natural gas. As a result of strategic planning, investing, and perseverance the City of Deming weathered these storms and emerged in a positive financial position that has continued to provide for the growth of our local economy as seen below.

Granite/Slate/Lead/Nickel Water Line Replacement, 2021: New 6” water line replacement along the project streets between Pine and Ash Streets including new valves, fire hydrants, and service lines to the existing meters
Groundwater Monitoring Wells: 7 wells were drilled and completed as per NMED requirements. The 8 previously used wells were dry. All were closed by a NM licensed driller as per NM OSE requirements
PER Wastewater Facility Plan, 2023
The City’s existing wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) was designed and constructed almost 40 years ago, and components of the plant surpassed their useful life. The following were recommended:
- Upgrade the existing equipment at the headworks and influent pump station
- Upgrade the secondary treatment process to a Conventional Biological Nutrient Removal
- Utilize the existing tertiary filters and install a larger storage tank - Utilize existing effluent pump station
- Upgrade the disinfection system by installing a new liquid sodium hypochlorite disinfection system
Industrial Freight Route and Pedestrian Safety Improvement and Transportation Route Project
$750,000 from a Community Development Block Grant for All Inclusive Playground
Collaborate with County for Skate Park & Batting Cages

In addition to monthly City Council meetings, Town Hall meetings were added monthly which promote transparency & accountability. The City of Deming continues to encourage citizens to attend the monthly Town Hall meetings which provide information and the ability of local citizens to share in the project decision-making process by providing input and feedback.
