In recent months I have been approached by a couple of developers and institutions and asked to come up with some housing designs that would cater for the lower to middle income bracket in Namibia.
Some design suggestions are sometimes given to me but in most cases I find the designs quite inferior and to put it mildly I feel that a person that does not necessarily have 2, 3 of 5 N$m to spend should not have to settle for less in terms of design and build quality.
Naturally, in order to make the building costs feasible, the size of the dwellings are affected and extravagant use of expensive materials must be limited where possible.
I still feel that a first time homebuyer should be able to look at his or her house and feel truly proud of what they have purchased…
If I may quote a line from a prominent TV add relating to buying a vehicle…
”If you don’t look back at your vehicle after you parked it with a smile…
Then you’re not driving the right vehicle..”
The same goes for the place where you live!
So I have come up with some designs that aim to make smaller dwellings relatable and better looking than simple monolithic boxes, like many Single residential (and even some General residential) are these days.
Like the new homeowner, the developer of these properties should also take pride in what they offer customers and not just merely build as many as cheaply as possible just for the sake of profit.
Leave a legacy and not blight on the name of your firm.
Place yourself in the shoes of those less fortunate individuals and know that you REALLY made a difference in the lives of a family or families…
But hey.. That’s just my viewpoint.
Hope you like these…
(I am only sharing external renders since some of these are in fact going to be built and those plans belong to the developers/new owners)
